If you are planning to get a nose job that requires ANY work to the functional inner workings of the nose (septoplasmy), including addressing breathing issues or a deviated septum, I highly advise you to reconsider before choosing Dr. Rahban. Choose someone who is DOUBLE BOARD certified and a SPECIALIST in the face only (both of which he is not).
I went to Dr. Rahban several years ago for a rhinoplasty / septoplasmy procedure. I had a bad deviated septum, breathing issues, but also was unhappy for aesthetic reasons. At the time, Dr. Rahban seemed like a good fit — he had glowing reviews and in our consultation, his confidence made ME confident that he would be provide the results I needed. I felt very convinced that he was the right choice (but had virtually no frame of reference at that time for what a “good” or “right” plastic surgeon is). I was very satisfied with the results of my nose job at first, but as you know, true results show after about 2 years once swelling goes completely down. Over time, I started to notice imperfections, and become dissatisfied for a variety of reasons — aesthetically and medically. Not only did the tip turn out extremely small, the nasal valves were also extremely narrow and not supported, and collapsed on one side. The deviated septum was still deviated, and to this day, I have breathing issues that affect my sleep (more than before the procedure). I now have plans to see a new surgeon, one who is double board certified in both Otolaryngology / ENT and in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive surgery (unlike Dr. Rahban, who is only board certified in the latter).
Dr. Rahban is certainly a good surgeon in certain respects, and I have nothing against him personally. But from my experience with him, the outcome of my results, and extensive research and knowledge in the subject… with what I know now, I would not choose him again if I could go back. Rhinoplasty is one of the most difficult and complicated procedures out there, and requires someone who is skilled as a specialist in the face. There are going to be a lot of surgeons out there, but do a ton of research and reading on the topic before moving forward. Don’t be fooled by marketing, fancy words, “world renowned” etc etc… go based on fact-based evidence, the surgeon’s experience, and recent photos. The person with the most visibility is not always necessarily the best for your needs.
Lastly, in his podcast, Dr. Rahban mentions that as far as ownership goes, it is up to the patient to do their research. This is true, but it is also equally the doctor’s responsibility to be transparent about the limits of their expertise. I found that Dr. Rahban, while certainly an educated and skilled surgeon, was not transparent about where his limits lie. To me, that says a lot.
My experience isn’t the result of unrealistic expectations, it’s just the reality of my experience. I hope you take from it what you will.
