Rhinoplasty

Dr. Somenek's staff is amazing - they're responsive and easy to work with - and the entire process before the procedure was seamless. They're professional and happy to answer any questions you may have.

Everything before the procedure (scheduling, consultations, follow-up, etc.) was easy and stress-free, and the staff has taken excellent precautions regarding COVID-19. The day of the procedure was also quick and easy with the surgery starting on time and no major delays or problems the morning before the surgery. The recovery was also exactly how Dr. Somenek and his staff said it would be. I followed all of their steps and didn't have any issues with recovery.

The staff was a pleasure to work with throughout the process. Overall, everything was great, except for the actual end result of the surgery. My nose unfortunately looks worse post-surgery than it did pre-surgery. The only thing that was supposed to change from the front was my tip was to be lifted up, which I confirmed with Dr. Somenek before the surgery.

I didn’t want any width taken off the front as I was worried it would look too narrow/pinched. However, my nose from the front looks almost completely different now. Whereas before the surgery the front of my nose was mostly fine (again I just wanted the tip lifted), it has now taken on a sunken and crooked appearance. It looks like a significant portion of my bridge has been removed, and the middle of the bridge looks pinched and thinner than it did before surgery (I have attached pictures for reference).

The diagonal view does not look any better. Instead of looking straight and even, it is quite bumpy with a large hump starting around the middle of the nose, which is the exact opposite of what we discussed. From a diagonal view, the bridge looks too low at the top and then the bottom half of the nose looks humped and arched and larger than the top half of the bridge.

There is no smooth transition between the top half of my bridge and the bottom half (I have included a picture of this view for reference, as well). The side profile is better, and the best of the three views, but the issues plaguing the front and side view carry over a bit. Dr. Somenek did lift the tip and shave down the bridge as we discussed, but based on the results, he appears to have shaved the bridge down more than was shown in the consultation imaging we reviewed, which forms a bump about halfway down the nose.

He also didn’t lift the tip as much as I would have liked, but this is more of a personal preference and a very minor complaint to the others. I reached out to Dr. Somenek's office about these concerns and provided some before and after pictures, but I never heard anything from them, which is unfortunate since they were so helpful and responsive before the procedure.

Sadly, the front of my nose looks worse than it did before the procedure, and if I had known the front of my nose would look like it does now, I would not have gone through with the procedure. Again, I repeatedly asked for confirmation during the consultations that the front of my nose would not look different besides the tip being lifted, and I was assured the front would look mostly the same, but that's sadly not what happened.

Overall, I dislike my nose more now than I did before I had the rhinoplasty, which is obviously not the results you want when spending a large sum of money on a rhinoplasty. Other patients seem very happy with their results, so it could very well be my experience is an outlier, but I’m incredibly disappointed in the end result and the lack of response when I brought these concerns to their attention, so personally I would not recommend Dr. Somenek to those wanting a rhinoplasty.
