Couldn't Be Better, Regret Not Doing This Earlier

Okay here is a long review, in the interest of being as detailed as possible and hopefully able to help anyone out there who is looking for this sort of impactful decision. I’m a Asian-american woman (Taiwanese), 28 years old at the time of surgery. I first started seriously considering a nose job about two years prior, which is when I started doing some research, looking at reviews, and following some plastic surgeons. I hope that anyone who is looking for a rhinoplasty right now will consider the below items before making their selection, because I feel that making a face-changing decision, usually permanent, and usually expensive, should be taken very seriously and with a multitude of research and consideration.
Firstly, structural integrity. My greatest fear when I thought about doing a nose job, was seeing the photos of people who got them and their noses “caved in” afterwards. Dr. Rahban first got onto my radar because I stumbled onto an article he wrote talking about structural rhinoplasties. For someone like me, with a big dorsal hump that I wanted broken down, it can be risky for a doctor to simply break down the bone and stitch it together smaller. But without putting proper supports back in, the nose can have potential of caving in later in the future. It’s not that common, but it does happen, and I didn’t want any part of that risk. Dr. Rahban takes special consideration not to let this happen, and he can explain this much better than I can in this review.
Secondly: length of the doctors’ surgeries, and how many surgeries they do a day. Through my reviews and research, I noticed that certain doctors seemed to have many surgeries a day back to back, and each surgery would be extremely quick. On the other hand, they told me Dr. Rahban’s surgery would take 2.5- 4 hours, and Dr. Rahban would be doing it from beginning to end. The range of 2.5 – 4 hours meant that it could take longer than expected, as needed, because he would not finish until the job was done correctly to his satisfaction. This is in contrast to any doctors out there who pile surgeries back to back, and get in and out as fast as possible, even leaving their nurses/med techs to finish the sutures.
Finally, I noted that his follow-up appointments were far more comprehensive than the other doctors. He has follow-up appointments 1, 2, and 6 weeks post-op. He then has more follow-ups at 2 years, 5 years, and even TEN (10) years later! This shows the dedication and care towards his patients – he genuinely cares about getting you a GOOD, long-term result. The most amazing part for me was realizing that he has a 24/7 help line that you can call after your surgery. I actually called it in the middle of the night when I had a minor freak-out over something (You could say I’m an anxious person). I didn’t expect the help line to reach the doctor directly since it was 1 am, but it did! I am really impressed that he puts this level of attention to take care of his patients.
For the above 3 reasons, I could tell Dr Rahban was a cut above the rest. The next thing I factored in were: His before and after photos, not only on his gallery, but also all the reviews I could find. What I loved about his work was that you could tell that every single nose he did was appropriately molded for the individual patient. He did not have a blueprint or template that appeared to be stamped on every single woman that came in. I loved the results I saw, over and over, where each nose looked not only conventionally pretty, but oftentimes had a subtle and unique beauty to it that looked extremely natural and inborn. For this, I could tell he was not only a great surgeon but additionally had a great aesthetic eye for angles, shapes, and facial harmony.
After my consultation, I was sold. The price was a bit higher than some of the other doctors I consulted (but not the highest), and all I can say about that is – worth every penny. If I had to do this entire procedure all over again, there is no way I would try to find another doctor that could do it cheaper. His fee is 100% price to value. Every single aspect of it went so comfortably, anxiety-free, and the end result is aesthetically more perfect than I could have picked out myself.
Surgery went flawlessly. Here I should give credit not only to Dr. Rahban, but the amazingly professional team he has put together. The office assistants were on point in my weeks leading up to the surgery, answering my questions immediately and thoroughly. They gave me very specific and detailed instructions, and recovery advice. The days leading up to my actual surgery, I received calls to remind me about the pre-op instructions, which made the process smooth and easy. On the day of surgery, the nurses were all extremely kind and reassuring.
Best of all, my special shoutout goes to the anesthetician. Something I was really dreading for this entire process was the general anesthesia. I read a lot of reviews of the anesthesia having terrible effects, feeling sick for hours, throwing up or having nausea. I came into the surgery room, and literally in the blink of an eye (as it felt to me), I was back out of it and sleeping comfortably in a recovery cot. The anesthesia had no ill effects on me, I woke up feeling pretty good, just tired.
Recovery and healing: This is an aspect that shows Dr. Rahban’s surgical skill and genuine attention to patient wellbeing, which I didn’t anticipate until I experienced it myself. My healing process was, in a word, brilliant. I read so many horror stories, and saw dozens of photos and multiple Video logs of women who got rhinoplasties. The 1-5 days after their surgeries, some of them honestly looked like plums with the amount of massive swelling and bruising around their nose, cheeks, and eyes. They looked like they’d gotten beaten up horribly, and would also describe headaches and nausea for days afterwards. I braced myself for all this, and even showed these pictures to my boyfriend so he wouldn’t be surprised when it happened to me.
Instead, what happened was: absolutely nothing. You can see in the photos that I posted (1 day post-op, and 5 days post-op), that my face stayed totally normal. There was *very minimal* swelling, just barely noticeable. And there was no bruising at all, except for a tiny pill-sized area near the cast. The rest of the recovery was similarly painless, no headaches or nausea or anything like that. Really the mark of a good surgeon, in my opinion!
And finally, the overall end result. Here I think pictures speak better than words, as you can the photos I’ve posted displaying the aesthetic result he achieved. This is subjective, but my personal opinion is that it’s absolutely wonderful. I am beyond the moon with my new nose; I think it fits me SO well, and on top of that feels SO natural. I’m writing this 7 weeks post-op, and I still feel a surge of pride, and a little giddy, every time I pass a mirror at an angle. I went through decades of avoiding angled photos, of refusing to tag myself in pictures from the side, of staying awkwardly front-facing towards anyone I was talking to, and generally feeling a sense of self-consciousness anytime someone looked at me from the side. Today, I am more confident than I have ever been in my life, and it’s purely a mental change that has happened. I know my ‘before’ was fine to a vast majority of people that met me, but my ‘after’ is simply a more mentally self-assured person. Most importantly, it feels like the nose I was meant to have in the first place. I feel comfortable in my own skin now, and the psychological change that it has induced is nothing short of extraordinary. It is honestly one of the top 2-3 decisions I’ve ever made in my life. Hope this helps. Happy to answer any additional questions.
