Great Experience
My journey with Blanc Clinic started last year when I reached out via whatsapp.
I was discussing options with other popular surgeons in Istanbul at the time (Celebi, Volkan and Bariskan) but found communication with the assistants wasn't as thorough or helpful as I would have liked. I'm not sure why but this made me worry about pre and post op care, but I had also read an in-depth review from a patient of Celebi's that found pre and post op care was not good at all.
From that point, I scraped my idea of going with a surgeon that is riding the popularity wave at the time and accepted that Turkey has a vast array of talented surgeons.
I found Blanc Clinic through a quick google search and immediately Whatsapp'd the assistant, Tarik. He asked for photos and what result I was hoping for. He conversed with the Dr. Helvaci and she advised that the surgery and result would be easy (despite me thinking I had a really difficult case)!
Tarik was my point of contact from that point forward, he sent me before and afters of patients with similar cases and results I was hoping for. No question was too much (and I asked a lot!!), he always came back promptly and answered in as much detail as I needed.
When I unfortunately had to cancel my original date due to Turkey going on the red list, Tarik was very understanding and continued to answer my questions and help me find a new date once Turkey finally came off the red list! At this time, I also decided to get jowl liposuction and fat transfer to my chin.
Once I was in Istanbul, Tarik kept constant contact. My consultation was on a Monday, Tarik picked myself and my friend up from our hotel. We went to the clinic, which was on the 37th floor of a local business building/ shopping mall, with beautiful views and a beautiful set up. All the staff were lovely and friendly.
My consultation only lasted about 10 minutes but Dr. Helvaci was confident and very reassuring that she felt the operation would go according to plan. Tarik sat in on the consultation and later relayed anything to me that I may have missed, as I was in a constant state of "I can't believe I'm finally doing this". Tarik dropped us back to the hotel and told me what time he would collect me to go to the hospital the next day.
The next day was a whirlwind, Tarik took myself and my friend to the hospital. First, I had a meeting with the anaesthesiologist, Tarik went through all the forms with me and translated questions if there was a language barrier between myself and the anaesthesiologist.
After this, I had and ECG followed by my blood tests. There was a lot of quick pacing through the hospital to different departments. Finally I got settled into my private room, kitted out with a sofa (which you friend can sleep on if you bring someone), kettle, teas etc, TV and bathroom. I signed more forms that weren't in English but if I'm being honest, there was so much to read I'm not sure I would of had time - if this is concerning to you please ask to have them with enough time to go through them.
I then changed into my gown and had the cannula put into my hand (not the most pleasant but bearable). Dr. Helvaci soon arrived to check in and to do her surgical drawing lines on my face. She advised I would be sedated soon.
My one complaint would be that I didn't receive this sedative but I think that would be down to the staff there rather than Blanc Clinic - if you are particularly nervous (for some reason unlike me, I was quite calm) please do remind the staff that you are expecting one. A nurse came in soon after with a bed for me to hop into to be wheeled down to the operating room. Once there I was put under quite soon.
Then I was woken up and it was over! Just like that... When I first woke up I noticed that my heels were really sore... I have no idea why. I also had a headache and was obviously a bit disorientated. They put some painkillers through my cannula (which didn't end up working as it needed to be changed).
Once back in the room, with the help of the staff they put me back on my bed from the operating bed. I did complain that I had a cracking headache so they changed my cannula and re-administered the painkillers. They also tried to put an ice pack on my head which just caused too much pain so I couldn't keep it on, I would suggest to try as it would have massively helped with the swelling.
I then did have a bit of a panic (as I'm inclined to do) so the nurses ordered another blood test and ECG (which I paid €83 extra for the next day) and had a doctor come in to reassure me. After that I was in and out of sleep, I think every two hours a nurse came in to take my blood pressure and give me more pain killers.
You can't get up to go to the bathroom until you've eaten (3 hours after surgery). I felt very weak and didn't eat a lot until the following evening (which isn't ideal).
The next day, Tarik picked me up from the hospital and came with all my medication and explained what each was for.
The following days I spent a good amount of time trying to keep my nose clean and sleep sitting upright in the bed. On Friday, I felt very nauseous and weak which was my fault as I wasn't drinking enough water or eating. Another member of staff (Bassel) picked me up to go and get my splint off in the clinic. The staff were so kind as I needed to plonk myself down on the couch due to feeling so faint. They took really good care of me!
Dr. Helvaci took my splint off in the waiting room so I didn't have to move. They reapplied my nose bandages and I was given all my paperwork to take home.
I flew home two days later and each day I felt a bit better. Finally the next friday rolled around and I could take my nose bandages off. It was so nice to see my nose properly! I sent after pics to my Tarik, who besides being so happy for me, showed the doctor and she said I needed to put my head bandage back on (for my neck after liposuction). Which really showed me that they care after you've completed surgery and left the country.
Overall, I am so happy with my results. Pre and post op care was amazing from Tarik and all the staff in Medicina hospital! Dr. Evren Helvaci is really experienced and I would 100% recommend her.
Thank you to everyone in Blanc Clinic for helping me achieve something I've dreamed of for years.
My main advice is to DRINK and EAT after surgery, it really helps!
Try get out and see some of Istanbul pre and post surgery. I would have done more post surgery had I not had a big head bandage on covered in blood!
Ask the questions and find someone you can put your trust in to look after you during your stay.
Bring a friend, I was so lucky to bring someone who was happy to do things by himself when I was bed bound, but he helped me so much I don't' think I could have done it without him.
Please reach out if you have any questions about the process :)
If you are going with Blanc Clinic, I'm sure Tarik will be more than helpful!
Catch me on insta, I'm always happy to help!
