A Nightmare
I had a rhinoplasty and a chin implant with Dr. Torgerson in 2017 when I was 26 years old. I came from a different province in Canada and so I incurred additional fees such as flights, rental car, hotel, etc. It makes me sick thinking of how much money I spent in all - likely close to $25, 000. Before this surgery, I was extremely frugal and very much a penny pincher. I thought I'd treat myself and I spent a considerable amount of time researching different surgeons in Canada before settling on Dr. Torgerson. I deeply regret this decision. I never hated my old nose - it was quite large with a prominent hump. I just wanted a natural change in my appearance (slight removal of the hump).
In summary, my nose after the surgery is piggish and upturned and my nostrils are asymmetrical. Worst then this, is that I've had problems breathing since this surgery, even now (more than three years later). I have become a mouth breather. I have been extremely patient with the process and polite with the staff. Roughly 8 months after my first surgery, I had a free revision surgery with Dr. Torgerson - my breathing improved slightly and the looks also improved slightly. I'm still unhappy about my result - I have spent nights where I didn't get a minute of sleep due to troubles breathing through my nose. It seems to get clogged easily - the air passageways are extremely narrow. What's also awful is that I lost a decent paying job (that I had for 4 years) after my first procedure with Dr. Torgerson - I had a hard time getting out of bed and I was afraid to leave my house for the first several months. I eventually lost my job because of this. I went on to get another job months later where I had children use their finger to upturn their own nose behind my back when I wasn't looking, obviously referring to me. I went to a psychologist a few weeks after my first procedure and she was frightened for me - I ended up trying to calm HER down! She said things like "Oh my god, I didn't look like that after MY nose job!"
I'm 29 years old now and I've never had a boyfriend, feel uglier than before the surgery, and I have breathing issues. I had my driver's licence picture taken recently and I was shocked by my appearance (I try not to look in the mirror these days or take any pictures); my old picture with my old nose looked much better, even though there was a hump. This new nose doesn't suit my face at all. Even now, I struggle in my interactions with people. The left side of my nose looks plain awful - I've noticed I place myself to the left of other people so they only see the right side of my nose. I've never been like this before with my old nose - I was never self conscious of it. I really feel for all of you that had a bad experience, whether it was with Dr. Torgerson or with anyone else. I've been quiet about this for too long and it's important for me to share my story. I hope you find peace and healing.
