Lovely Doctor, Questionable Results
ladylady21October 3, 2021
I have deliberated leaving a review for Dr. Buonassisi for a long time; upon reading the previous review and seeing all the similarities to my own experience, I decided I should let other know about my experience as well as I found the reviews on Real Self so helpful.
I am 14 months post op, although I had a minor revision two months ago. I believe I am now seeing my final result and I am not completely satisfied.
Let me begin with the positives:
1) Dr. B was, hands down, the surgeon with the best bedside manner that I had met with. He immediately put me at ease, patiently answered all my questions and was very honest. He is very kind and approachable.
2) The fact that he works out of a surgery centre with a full nursing staff and anesthesiologist was very comforting for me, as someone choosing to undergo elective surgery. I was hesitant to go with any doctors who operated out of their own office. The staff at the surgery centre were all equally as kind and reassuring as Dr. B.
3) The office staff and Dr. B are very responsive to questions and during post-op care. I had a minor issue and Dr. B called me immediately and even texted me when I didn’t answer.
The negatives:
1) There is really only one negative aspect to my rhinoplasty journey - I didn’t get the result I desired. The goals of my surgery were hump removal, deprojection, straightening of septum and external twisting of nose. Dr. B was honest from the get go and said that as we were changing so many things,
I would probably see an improvement of about 70% overall. I would say my improvement is about 40%. I still have a remaining hump, my nose still projects too far and there is a flat spot on my nose which makes it look wider. It is also still crooked, albeit less so. On the plus side, my breathing has improved somewhat. I am just really bummed about the hump. That is the part that always bothered me the most and I really just wanted it gone.
After cast removal, it was apparent that there was still a sharp bump on the bridge of my nose. This never went away despite massage and taping. At my 6 month follow up, Dr. B agreed that the bump should not be there and offered a revision at reduced rate. After the revision, the bump was better, but still there. I was super anxious going into the first surgery, and was even more upset about spending more money and having to go through surgery again.
As a previous reviewer said, this was a once in a lifetime shot for me as well. I simply cannot sink more money into my face. Yes, my nose is improved but not as much as I had hoped. The improvement is evident to me, but literally no one else has noticed. I have not been “botched” and for that I am grateful, but still disappointed I spent over $10k on something I am not thrilled about.
I did extensive research and Dr. B seemed like THE nose guy in Vancouver. However if you read his reviews, in the last year or two he has had many unfavorable rhinoplasty reviews - not sure what has happened. I believe, like others have mentioned, that he is far too conservative. If you have a minor issue to correct, you may luck out and get what you want, otherwise, I would suggest you keep researching doctors. Dr. Buonassisi is so kind, knowledgeable and likeable; but in the end, you’re not paying $10,000 for someone to be nice to you, you’re paying that money for a good result.
