Rhinoplasty- 1 Year on
See my post history for my overall surgery experience/initial thoughts. This review I felt I really wanted to leave as you can be super happy 6 months p/o and end up hating it a year down the line.
Overall- I have no regrets with my decision or surgeon choice. Dr Murphy has been nothing but helpful and kind towards me, despite some reviews (everyone will have some bad ones) I feel if I ever did come into an issue down the line he would be helpful.
My nose- it fits my face perfectly. The swelling main changes is that my tip has dropped down a bit now but this is to be expected. People have said it looks like I was born with this nose which is exactly what I wanted. If you are after barbie like results I wouldn’t say he is the surgeon for you- but if you are after a more natural looking result which will suit you through the years it is worth a conversation. I’m happy with the shape and size- my initial concerns being a bump and a significant hang when I smiled all of which has been “sorted”. I know many people who have had their nose done, and all experience some minor things they pick up on. For me my only “issue” is that I seem to still have more swelling on one side than the other which can make my nose which looks very straight front on in natural lighting, look off to one side under certain lights which can spook me slightly if it’s captured in a picture. But I see my face everyday and never notice it- so I am not dwelling on it, and I do hope in time this will go away anyway as I can still feel swelling in the tip which is where this is. It was explained to me upon consultation that this is not a procedure for those expecting perfection- and I completely agree. Even world class surgeons have unhappy patients because people expect perfection, and the healing process is just too unpredictable with this surgery. So if you are reading this considering it- please don’t go ahead if you are expecting an absolutely flaw free result under a microscope.
Also- I have had multiple people tell me they have seen him based on my recommendations and it only further confirms for me this is an ETHICAL surgeon. One girl explained he had told her that for the change she wanted, which was very minimal, he would do it- but he didn’t think it would be worth the risk considering how unpredictable it can be, for such a small change. She’s now decided against the surgery and came away feeling better about herself than she went in. We need more surgeons like this please! Everyone else has complimented and echoed how friendly, warm and kind he is- whilst also being completely honest about what is achievable and what is not.
I cannot thank the whole team enough- it will be a sad day when Mr Murphy retires.

Feb 22- 5 months post op
Roughly 5 months post op and just had a look at my simulation vs my current result. Over the MOON! I was truly ready to have something that i wasn’t happy with or something new about my nose to fixate on but nope, just a very happy patient.
No issues to cite just yet, I can feel a tiny lump on one side of my nose at the bottom but it’s not visible to the eye and some days I can’t feel it at all so I’m pretty sure it’s swelling. I don’t worry about it.

Life Changing
I am only one week post op but feel compelled to write a review already so people can read how amazing Dr Murphy is. I have had one surgery prior to this with a “celeb” surgeon in Manchester, and whilst happy with my results from that I just assumed all surgeons were cold and quite rude. As soon as I met doctor Murphy he was warm and incredibly kind and understanding. He spent a good chunk of my first consult on the why behind me wanting my nose done, which I really loved because I did genuinely feel If I wasn’t a good candidate based off my why he wouldn’t have done it eg if there was a sign of BDD, which is a huge green flag for a surgeon. You can tell he cares and genuinely wants to help people. I explained the issues I’d been having with my nose- bump and excessive tip dropping when I smiled. He then did a full examination of my nose and picked up on a deviated septum and blocked airway- something which a previous Harley Street surgeon had failed to pick up on. We took pictures and then he did a simulation and it was spot on. Others could never show me how changing my side would change the front (which concerned me as one of my main wishes was to keep the front as similar as possible as it’s something o like). He showed me that taking my hump down would make me look a bit flat from the front so he would redefine after shaving down- showed me that from the front and I was in love. It was a big change- but I still looked like me. I booked immediately on the day, there was no pressure to do so but his demeanour and confidence were compelling I knew he was the right person for me.
I had my surgery a week ago, admitted at 7am, down for 9am. I woke up feeling completely fine, previously I’d been very sick from anaesthetic but had no issues this time round. The nurses and staff were lovely and his anaesthetist is also very lovely and very warm! I was well looked after, stayed in overnight and left the next day.
Now for the miracle: I had NO bruising. Over the whole week I didn’t bruise once. Every morning I was waiting to look in the mirror and see a black eye or my eyes red and swelled shut: nothing. I was actually filming the process so it made for quite a boring video but wow my recovery was a breeze. I swelled a lot on my cheekbones on day 2-3 but by day 4 end of the day it was going down. I was out and about after a few days doing small walks and felt fine. The worst part was how itchy my nose was under my cast! I have had a BA previously and this was a walk in the park in comparison.
Yesterday, it was cast off day. I have watched probably every single video, read every page on google etc about cast removals and was fully prepared for the absolute worst. I thought they would take it off and I would want to hide for a week in dismay. I was expecting to want to hide from my boyfriend and book myself in somewhere alone so no one could see me. Cast removal was not painful at all and his nurse Jac really put me at ease. She said I was gonna love it but I didn’t know if she was just being kind. When I looked in the mirror- yes my nose was a little fat looking from the front but I could already see how straight it was (I had a straight nose before so was scared I would be trading in one problem for another and it would end up wonky). From the side- again quite a bit of swelling but an instant improvement, no bump- and not piggy looking at all. My nose looks like q swollen version of how I looked before I developed a bump. As soon as I left I cried, it really does feel like q weight off my shoulders. I have tape on my bridge to support it for the next 4-5 days and my tip is very very swollen this morning, but even with that I’m over the moon. My stitches are dissolvable so it’s a waiting game for those now but other than that what an amazing experience so far. I’m happy with my swollen nose- I cannot believe it’s going to get smaller and more refined over time I just know I’m going to be over the moon. I’ve been quite open and honest about this on my social media and have more pictures on there which won’t upload here- amyrookes on IG.
Dr Murphy really is a credit to surgeons in the U.K. the whole team are incredible. I am very very glad I didn’t go abroad, he was worth every penny and I cannot wait for the next year of healing.
