Left with Bumpy Nose

Left with Bumpy Nose

I had a Rhinoplasty with Mr Uppal in 2016, i went for lots of consultations with him as i was very particular about what I wanted to achieve from the surgery, the bones on the bridge of my nose protruded from either side and which I wanted sorted also I had a lot of projection and a slight bump. I wanted my nose basically smoothed out, and less projection, he assured me that this could be done so i went and booked the surgery for the December of that year. I went in for the surgery and was surprised after about how quick the procedure was, an hour and a half. Anyway after was fine i healed really well, when i went in to have the cast taken off i was happy, my nose looked smooth, the projection wasn’t reduced as much as I would like but it still needed to settle and heal further. After the swelled when it had finally settled I noticed i the left side of my nose dipped alot inward which made my nose look ‘wavy’ from the side, and i still had a bit of a dorsal hump on my nose, I brought this up to Mr uppal and he suggested a revision to file down the bone more to even this out, and he told me to push my thumb on the dorsal hump for a couple of minutes a day to try and flatten it down. as I couldn’t afford to have it done at the hospital under general he offered a cheaper option of having it done under local, I went for the procedure but he focused more on the right side (the better side) filing that side down more than the left, I’m still confused as to why he did this because i did tell him that it was the left side that i was unhappy with, but after he filed it down I noticed that i’ve been left with a dent on the right side of my nose which is visible as i have thin skin on my nose. I did have high hopes on this surgery as i had wanted it for so long, my nose doesn’t look that much different from how it looked before except now it looks wavy and uneven.

I had a similar outcome and similar issues. My surgery with him was in 2017. Are you going to do something about it?
I can’t afford too, I was hoping that the revision he did would solve the problem but it just gave me more problems. Did you have a revision with him too?
Not yet. I am debating whether I want him to touch my face ever again. He said he should file down the excess scarring under local anesthetic. Truth is, I consulted other surgeons and the simple filing - apart from the fact that I could get more scarring still- will not solve the issue, as the cartilage is deviated too. This would require a major revision under general anesthetic with no certainty about the results. And nothing can be done about the bumps on my tip he left me with due to his treatment with cortisone injections (he tried to convince me I had to have a chemical peel to get rid of them, my dermatologist said the only thing it would give me are nice small pores). So bottom line, my surgery was underdone and the results are really, really disappointing. Partly, this might be due to my skin type and my having had bad luck, but I cannot help but wonder how he was selected for Tatler and which criteria they use to compile their lists. I would have not contacted him had it not be for that. I have never gotten an appointment in Harley street, does he even have an office there? And what about the 50 GBP Amazon voucher his office 'kindly' gives in exchange for a review? To think about all the hopes I had for my new nose. I feel stupid now.
Don’t get a revision done by him, the filing under local is absolutely awful. I really wish i had Mr Ion do my rhinoplasty, I think he has and office in Harley Street, i never went there, I went with Mr Uppal because he consults in Windsor and at that time it was easy for me to get to. Do you know how long it took for Mr Uppal to your primary rhinoplasty, because I asked my boyfriend at the time after i came out and he said i was in there for an hour and a half, and that to me seems quite quick, I thought rhinoplasty was a very technical a delicate operation I thought it would take at least 2-3 even 4 hours. Thought it was rushed.
One hour or slightly more including prep. I recall being wondering as well as it was so short. Thanks for the suggestion re no revision with him. I hope you will get the results you were hoping for one day! I know how it feels.
I had the same experience and outcome with Mr Uppal. My surgery was in January 2015 and 1 month later he revised my nose under local anesthesia. He left me with a permanent problem, I can't breathe right, I have now reactive rhinitis and a dent. The worst decision ever. Paid 6000£ to ruin my nose. It's insane that he still performs in Harley street. I hope you get revision with another surgeon when your nose has healed. xx
Dr Ion has a few bad reviews- try Dr Charles East. I'm going to have a consulation with him next year but he sounds like one of the top rhinoplasty experts in London.
We're sorry to hear that you are not happy. We can assure you that every aspect of your care is meticulous. Please get in touch so we can help.
I appreciate that you want to help but for one i am nervous for Mr Uppal to do surgery again, two I can’t afford to have anything done because you will probably charge hospital fees and i can’t afford that. What i would really like is to be reimbursed, again i did pay a lot of money for an outcome that i am unhappy with, and the revision made it worse.
I also think it’s appalling that we have to pay hospital fees for any revisions, in my opinion they should of covered the hospital fees. We pay all this money for a rhinoplasty, and when it doesn’t go right and need revision we still have to put our hands in our pocket. I spent over £9000 on my primary rhinoplasty with him and I’m fuming i had to pay hospital fees for a revision.
If he has not delivered what was agreed in the consultation, then please seek legal advise. I’ve read quite a lot of bad reviews on this surgeon. This surgeon doesn’t seem to listen to what the patient wants and will do as he sees fit on the operating table.
