If you’ve been obsessing over the idea of a rhinoplasty (or even more anxiety inducing, a revisional rhinoplasty), your googling, sifting through reviews, and deliberation can end here. I found myself in your chair a few months ago and after careful review I decided to book a consult with Dr. Rahban. He encouraged me to go to many consults and compare to complete my research and ultimately choose the right surgeon and decision to go through with the procedure at all. He did not course me into any decisions. But by the end of my consult, I had the (correct) intuition and peaceful absolution that I would go through with the procedure and I would only do so with him as my surgeon. I even waited a full 6 months from my consult to book the surgery, and although the prices had increased, Dr. Rahban and his team honored the price they originally quoted me at my consult before the new year and changes to pricing.

My story starts (as I’m sure yours does) with hating my nose and the way it interrupted my whole face and the features that I loved about myself; for as long as I could interpret my appearance, I understood that I had a nose that was crooked, bumped, bulbous, and too big for my small face. From early adolescence on I complained and begged my parents to one day let me alter it. When I turned 16, they agreed to let me undergo a rhinoplasty with a doctor recommended by a friend. I completed my surgery, and had high hopes for my new nose. I did not think it looked good when the cast was removed, and staved off of expressing that as my doctor kept reminding me it wouldn’t look good at first, I had to wait for the swelling to go down, we wouldn’t consider anything final until a year had passed. I patiently awaited a satisfactory result; a year passed and the day never came. My doctor started putting fillers and injectables into my nose - producing a nose that was possibly more crooked than before and still unattractive. I was horrified by the the thought of anything getting worse for my nose, of doing another surgery ever. I thought I had my chance and that was the result I would live with forever—I accepted this for 9 years.

I finally decided I would entertain the thought and got to researching, resolving that I would find the best or I wouldn’t do it at all. I researched locally in Illinois (where I live) but I couldn’t seem to find a surgeon I trusted who had consistent results I liked that were catered to the unique faces of patients. It wasn’t long before my searching brought me to Beverly Hills and onto Dr. Rahban’s pages. The reviews spoke for themselves, and the consult left me energized. Immediately he called out the same faults in my nose that I could see and those that I couldn’t see regarding the structure and areas that the previous surgeon left “botched” (although he never used that term). I milled over it for a few months and then I took the leap and booked it. Each time I went to the office for my pre-opp, my surgery, my post-ops, I left with that same energizing feeling that replaced the previous pit of fear and anxiety I had about my nose and the revision. It HAD to be right, no mistakes would be afforded. I flew back and forth each time, knowing that I was in the best possible hands and no lesser effort to commute to a surgeon locally would have made up for the difference in quality.

I would have been elated with a result that was just “not bad” or left me looking normal. Dr. Rahban was nothing short of a magician for me. Unlike the first time, he took the cast off at 1 week post op and I was filled with relief and joy even considering the swelling—I immediately loved it and saw a dramatic change. I had a difficult nose to fix, and for that reason I didn’t expect a perfect outcome. Week 2 was even better after we left the splint on an extra week for final molding. Week 6 better still! My new nose fits me, it doesn’t look like a manufactured nose plopped onto my face. It’s straight, much more symmetrical with profiles that are unique on each side yet equally beautiful. I take photos head on, I don’t think about angling my face when talking to people so they won’t catch a glimpse of the twisted profiles and crookedness I agonized over before my revision. I wake up every day so thankful that I found Dr. Rahban and that I did the surgery at the soonest date I could. I can’t believe I almost spent another day with my less than satisfactory first result, let alone the rest of my life.

Yes, it is work to fly back and forth if you are not local; yes, it is expensive and you may have to take out a Care Credit or other line to finance it; and yes, you will have a week or two with a splint on and be mildly uncomfortable but it is MORE work to get it wrong the first time or to live with a nose that doesn’t feel like you and causes you detriment to your confidence. If you’re on the fence, just do it, and do it here. Dr. Rahban and his outstanding staff will be with you every step of the way and you will never look back. I hope my story, albeit long, can help someone who is in the position I was in.
