Rhinoplasty and Facial Contouring Experience in Seoul
Some notes from my e-diary about experiencing a plastic surgery at banobagi clinic, Seoul KR.
Procedures done: genioplasty, zygoma and jaw reduction, rhinoplasty and eye surgery revision.
Dr.Chang-Hyun Oh – facial contouring
Dr.Hyun-Taek Lee – nose and eyes
Background: I had eyes surgery twice, so I was a bit experienced in plastic surgery process. Visited a low-scale place earlier and regretted a million times. When dared on facial contouring and rhino firmly decided to go only to a premium class clinic. I’m from Hong Kong and couldn’t find a one matching my expectations so I went further. I don’t wanna waste time on describing how I came up with a conclusion to proceed surgeries at banobagi in Seoul and move directly to the most important parts – operation and rehabilitation.
June 23, 2016. I Arrived Seoul at night and went directly to the hotel. It was located a bit far from banobagi but I liked prices. Most of the time I used a subway, it was quite convenience there. The next day I visited banobagi for the first time. The assistant explained how to get there and I also got an extra subway map for easier navigation.
June 24, 2016. I left the hotel an hour earlier to see the time needed to get to banobagi place. It was quite easy to find so I was there much earlier. Before the consultation got x-ray and ct scans as already signed for the operation. First, I met with Dr.Lee and initially didn’t plan an eye surgery revision but when the doctor noticed the asymmetry while opening my eyes – my Achille’s heel, he advised to improve the left one and led by the trust in his skills and experience decided for an extra surgery. Since my nose bridge was too low and tip a bit upward, we agreed on rhino with external approach and hyaluronic acid fillers. Dr.Lee said that he’d take a cartilage from my ear for a tip and will insert a silicone implant to make a bridge higher. Later I met with Dr.Oh for facial contouring consultation. I always had wide cheekbones which made my face look huge. He showed me a lot of before&afters and suggested an advanced genioplasty for my underdeveloped chin, angle jaw and cheekbone reduction. After consultations I went through different blood tests, chest x-ray, checked blood pressure and heart condition, etc.
Generally, banobagi left quite positive first impression. The courtyard was pretty stylish, waiting room and lobby were very cozy and in doctor’s offices I didn’t feel a hospital-like atmosphere. Both surgeons seemed very experienced and detailed, patiently answered my questions and suggested relevant advices for my problems. The x-day was set on June 26 so I had an extra day to prepare.
June 27, 2016. It was the first post-op day. The operation a day before finished earlier than it was planned and my worries about eye surgery was trifling. I was awake and Dr.Lee asked to open and close my eyes for several times during the operation but I didn’t feel any pain. I was very relaxed and calm and once he finished with my eyes, a nurse inserted a needle into my arm vein and what happened after is still a black hole for me. The next memory from the operation room started with the nurse calling my name and helping to get to the recovery room. I was so thirsty and felt how my lips were cracked but was asked to wait a few hours to drink water. I didn’t feel any dizziness or ache, just unusual pressure on my nose and face. It also was a bit difficult to breath, but I could deal with it by breathing with my mouth. When I finally was given a glass of water the first sip was very painful. Later the nurse brought me a dinner and it was quite difficult to eat but I did my best as I knew if I want to recover faster I had to eat and get more energy. I spent the first port-op night at banobagi under control. In the morning cottons were finally removed from my nose and I could breathe without problems. The assistant helped to grab a cab and I was finally in my hotel room. The next week I had to put more pillows and sleep only on my back. They gave me antibiotics and painkillers just in case if something hurts too much. Hopefully, it didn’t. I continuously put ice packs and walked around my room to make my metabolism faster.
July 3, 2016. Seven days flew very fast. Swelling was not as terrible as the first two days. I visited banobagi for progress management and met a girl who also proceeded the same surgery. She looked very swollen and I realized that I was very lucky, guess each rehabilitation is different. The next week I went through post-surgery procedures and stitches were removed from the columella and both gums in my mouth.
July 10, 2016. 2 weeks of post-op period. Swelling gradually gone, edemas turned into lightly-noticeable round spots under my eyes. I underwent several treatments for swelling: a hot stone massage and different masks. My face already looked smaller and slimmer and nose was so naturally beautiful. I changed my tickets from July 20 to 12 as the recovery went faster and easier than I expected, although the tip of my nose still remained senseless and swollen, the general situation was quite good.
July 25, 2016. A month since I got procedures done in Seoul. Most of the time my face was not swollen, I still couldn’t feel the tip of my nose, but the sense of smell came back. I tried to exercise my mouth every day and soon my mouth opened wide enough for a spoon. I still had to follow a diet, but at least could eat more solid food like sausages and bananas.
August 30, 2016. Two months of my post-op period. Swelling was completely gone, nose looked perfect. I could open my mouth wide enough, but still a bit difficult to yawn. I no longer followed the diet and already returned to my usual nutrition. Caught cold once and was afraid for my nose, but everything was ok. I felt a bit discomfort because of snotty, hopefully could get better fast. No make-up eyes looked amazing and proportional, the asymmetry was gone.
December 25, 2016. It was a Christmas night, I met all my friends and my family finally was fully gathered. Everyone was amazed by my results. No signs of proceeded surgeries at all. Everything looked very natural and neat. Scars on columella and eye already disappeared and with slight make-up I was like a doll. Dr.Lee told that the final result would be noticeable after 6 months but I could see it much earlier.
Today it’s been almost 2 years since I got surgeries done at banobagi. From my experience I understood that choosing the right place and doctor is very important. I was chasing after cheap prices and now regret about my foolishness, hopefully my last procedures I was in right hands.
