Rhinoplasty Experience
I recently made the decision to get a rhinoplasty. This operation has been of some thought to me for as long as I can remember. From as little as nine I was severely self-conscious at the apparent 'hump' in my nose and would go to all lengths to hide it as best as possible. Whilst I was almost certain rhinoplasty was a procedure I would one day elect to have done there were some obvious concerns with making such a permanent decision as this. Would I like the look of my new nose? Would it in fact change the way I saw myself? Were there going to be long term implications? Could I find a surgeon whom I felt comfortable enough with? All of these questions by the first consultation with Dr Ellis Choy were answered. I went into the appointment slightly scared and apprehensive. However, after a thorough discussion I was overwhelmed with relief and the support I had felt that would continue for the entirety of this small journey.
After a long awaited three months the day of my operation finally arrived. From start to finish the staff and Dr Choy's team made me feel completely at ease and in good hands. A three hour procedure later and I came to with little to no pain. For the first week whilst my cast was on, I did experience some mild swelling and discomfort in my face, however it was far from a painful procedure. Five days on, with my face almost rid of any swelling I was beginning to feel normal again. I saw Dr Choy again after a week to get the cast removed and see for the first time my new nose. After taking some more photos we had a look at just how much of a change had occurred. Whilst there was obvious swelling I could already see the absence of any hump and the overall structural difference he had managed to create. However, even after such a significant change as this I still looked and felt like myself. Ecstatic to say the least we again had an in depth conversation about my experience so far and spoke about post op care in a more personalized way.
My nose was still quite sensitive for several weeks after the procedure and eight weeks on its still 'changing shape'. But I couldn’t be happier, up until now I haven't realised how much of a positive impact changing this feature had for me. When crossing the road, I no longer strain my neck trying to find an angle at which my hump is hidden. I don’t feel the need to sit at the back of the class in fear someone will get a glimpse of my side profile. I stopped covering my face when I laugh as I no longer have to worry about the way my nose would hang down. The entire experience so far has been one I am thankful to have had. Making this decision was not one I took lightly but one I'm certain I made the right choice in. Dr Ellis Choy and his team took a feature I was constantly hiding and turned it into one I now feel beautiful with.
