Rhinoplasty by Dr. Volkan Kahya
UPDATED FROM Amelialouise94
1 year post
1 year and a half post surgery
WORTH IT$2,300
A couple of pictures from 6 months - 1 year post surgery. I’m pretty happy with the results and can definitely see what surgeons mean now when they say swelling can take a year or more to settle.
I obviously saw loads of pictures of Dr Volkan’s patients a 7 days + plus surgery and their nose was tiny (i.e little to no swelling) and I was like ‘this is nothing like my nose’.
I think because I had a few aspects of my nose corrected, on top of it being quite thick skinned and oily, particularly around the tip, the swelling took ages to subside, near to over a year!
Patience is a virtue though! About a year and a half later, I’m really happy with the results. The change has been a very natural change and I think new nose is much more in proportion with my face. Front on, it’s definitely more symmetrical and my nose no longer looks twisted.
No regrets :)

ORIGINAL POST
Rhinoplasty by Dr. Volkan Kahya
This 'review' is going to be kind of long! I'll obviously review Dr Volkan and his work, but I also wanted to share my experience, in the hope that it will help others out - I know I found people's experiences of what to expect and they really put my mind at ease.
So, here goes... I've hated my nose since I was in my early teens. The size, over projection, hump and droopy tip always bothered me, in conjunction with mean comments from people at school, so I had always planned to get rhinoplasty, even from about 14 years of age.
Once i'd graduated and was in a comfortable role work wise, I began to look for the right surgeon to do my rhinoplasty. I did really struggle to find a surgeon in Scotland with good reviews / good before and after pictures which delayed things somewhat. I was quite scared to take the leap. That was until I stumbled across Dr Volkan Kahya on Instagram of all places.
I had never ever actually considered getting surgery in England, nevermind flying abroad to get surgery and I never thought instagram would be the place where I'd find the right surgeon from me, but low and behold, it happened.
I hadn't instantly decided to book in with Dr Volkan though, I did ponder over this for about a year or so as I was quite dubious about 1. Flying abroad for surgery and 2. Booking surgery via social medium.
After actually speaking with others on here and through other social media outlets and after having several conversations with Dr Volkan, I decided to book in for my surgery. Initial conversations were over Instagram, but they then progressed to WhatsApp/confirmation through email.
In total, I met with Dr Volkan 4x whilst I was in Istanbul. The first was for the 3D imaging, then surgery, then for the removal of splints and removal of cast thereafter.
I'm not entirely sure if I would recommend the 3D imaging, it was useful to an extent, but I think perhaps a detailed description of your requirements/images would have sufficed and be less costly. A different surgeon via RealSelf has infact kindly made me a gif/image for free, which was better quality. You can see it here>>>. http://www.facialsurgery.com/anim/SmithAmeliaAnim.gif
Surgery went ok, they do your bloods and everything prior to surgery and so you are hanging around for quite a little bit, so if you're anxious, it might be an idea to keep someone with you to keep you calm. It is a bit nerve racking!
The nurses etc were however, very tentative and post surgery and they honestly checked on me about every 15-20 minutes to take blood pressure, temperature, change dressings and administer anti-biotics, IV/pain relief.
The noise/constant checking from nurses did make it difficult to sleep and so in the absence of sleep, I became bored out my mind and could not wait to be discharged!
I'd recommend bringing the following to the hospital with you: A friend/family member (hospitals are honestly so boring), earplugs, cards, an extension lead, iPad/tablet, socks, lip balm, wipes, comfy clothes and loads of water (honestly, bring loads)!
After relaxing in my hotel and enjoying room service/Netflix for a week or so, the last was removed at my last appointment. I must say, it was a bit of an anticlimax as my nose was enormous! But, I could tell it was just a bad case of edema (swelling)! I mean, look how swollen my eyes were!
Dr Volkan showed me how to gently massage my nose to try and release the swelling, in addition to sending me some videos of previous patients doing these exercises. I was then sent on my way home with a doctors note, confirm I was able to fly.
I'm now almost three weeks post op now and I really am quite happy with my results! My nose is still swollen, but not quite to the same extent. I don't think I'll ever particularly love my nose, but I think Dr Volkan did a great job - my nose looks a lot better than it did before, anyways!
Overall, I would honestly would recommend Dr Volkan. He spoke a fair amount of English, provided post surgery controls and supplied me was a whole host of nasal sprays and tablets. Istanbul itself is fantastic too! I loved it! It's full of culture and it's so fricking cheap!!

Thank you so much. My surgery by doctor Volkan is in February and I am so exited.
No worries! Honestly, if you have any questions/want to talk things through, just send me a DM! More than happy too! Everyone else's experiences really put my mind at ease! :)
Hi! Did you ever get your surgery?
Thank you for the long write up! This is really helpful! I’m also thinking of traveling to Turkey from the US for rhinoplasty and I found Dr. Kahya’s noses to be quiet beautiful. Could you pls elaborate on how you proceeded to schedule your appointment and such for surgery? Like what was the process like going from a foreign country? Every time I write to him on WhatsApp, his assistant answers but I want to talk to him directly before scheduling my surgery date. And because I’m coming for overseas, I’d ideally like to schedule my surgery date in advance before traveling to Turkey. Any input is appreciated! Thanks!
I am so happy for you, but I had a dreadful experience with Doctor Alpasan Yildirim who is based in Istanbul. My nostrils are asymmetrical and overall my nose looks botched, however he does not care. It was just like a conveyor belt system, whereby they entice you to have the procedure with their clinic without properly explaining the process and what to expect after the operation! I am very disappointed with the outcome.
I can't say I've heard of your doctor/surgeon, but I'm really sorry things didn't turn out as expected. I hadn't actually appreciated the number of people flying to Turkey for plastic surgery! On my return flight, there was at least 20 odd guys who'd had a hair transplant and a dozen with had rhinoplasty surgery!
Did you have any after surgery appointments?
No nothing! Hence the reason why I felt like a battery hen on a conveyor belt. As soon as they have you in their clutches they want the money to be paid in cash and the operation is done immediately. After the operation, I had to telephone Dr Yildirim's assistant numerous times for a follow up appointment as I had severe swelling 3 months after the operation. I flew back to Istanbul on 04 November 2019 and Dr Yildirim injected steriods in my nostrils and squeezed the bridge of my nose to reset the bones! The appointment was at my own expense. I am very disappointed.
Dear Yasmin, when did you have an operation? I wanted to book an operation with dr Yildirim, but now I'm having second thoughts. Does he even listen to your wishes?
I had my operation on 10 July 2019, and no he did not listen to my concerns or preference.
