Dorsal hump removal - this year I finally was ready to take the plunge!

After much more patience and so much waiting, I'm finally ready for an update.

Not much has been happening. We have tried 2 rounds of steroids over the last 4 months and I had lasik performed to get rid of my glasses -hoping that would help heal the bump that remains/ returned. I've been very upset and frustrated about this recently, so I was very glad that at my appointment this week my doctor wanted to move down a different avenue to fix this.

In the next few weeks we will perform a "micro rasp" procedure. Basically, its a skinny long file that he inserts in a small incision inside my nose under local anesthesia and shapes/ files down the imperfections. It is mostly cartilage that is "hinging" up creating a bump but also feels like a little bone on one side that also creates a bit of a crooked appearance from the front. He said it is very fast- minimal to no downtime and virtually painless (we'll see about that.)

He is very confident this will get us to the point we planned, but if it doesn't he said the next step would be something similar but likely under general.

He is not charging me for any of this as we pursue my straight nose.

We don't know exactly why this happened. He isn't convinced that it has anything to do with my exercises back in July. He said some noses just don't necessarily cooperate, but he is dedicated to fixing it, which I appreciate .

I've wanted so badly to have a straight nose for so long and I'm so ready.

He does believe that there is still some degree of swelling so we can only do so much filing and shaping as not to over correct it as it continues to heal.

I've included some 6 month pix and will re update after this upcoming mini procedure.

Fingers crossed!

Post scare update- 4 months

Finally able to update. It's been ALOT of waiting and patience since my swell up. I had a followup beginning of Sept to check on my swelling/ bump and while there was a little improvement, it was not resolved and was still swollen. Doc thinks the taping ended up irritating the swelling more than it was helping. At this point he made the decision to to inject local steroids. He wanted to avoid this as it did come with risks but at this point I was open to anything! The initial few days after injection the bump swelled up HUGE and terrified me again but I'm happy to report it's working!!!! My breathing continues to improve daily but some days are better than others. I can tell it's still swollen overall because the tip is hard as a rock, but it's only been 4 months so- expected. I have alot less crusties than i did a month ago (maybe the taping was causing it from irritation, who knows) I have a followup again in November but so far much happier!

6 weeks

Had a major scare last night. I've been doing my digital compression as ordered and realized last night as i looked at my side profile that something was terribly ans acutely wrong. I had this huge lump where i had had the lump removed on my bridge and my nose from the front was crooked. It must have happened after my last exercise. Had a major meltdown/panic and didn't know what to do at 10pm. I called my doc first thing and he had me come in. He thinks maybe my finger slipped while pushing on it ( which ill admit happened sometimes but i tried so hard to keep it stable). He said he's seen it before, he's even seen that during the massages a little piece of bone could break off and just cause massive inflammation. He said it's fine i don't need surgery and it's not ruined but it is important to get the swelling down before scar tissue could form. He prescribed some steroids and I'm back to just taping to help with swelling. I have a followup next week.
Scary night folks!! Hoping it's all back on track soon!
