Breathing Better & a Nose That Feels Like I Was Born with It
WORTH IT
I had a deviated septum and dorsal hump. It was hard for me to imagine what it would be like without both. When my breathing got so bad that I couldn't sleep, I searched plastic surgeons in the area out of desperation. Might as well think about doing both surgeries at once. I went to another surgeon who wanted to do too much I thought--splints and narrowing my nose...I am an Asian woman who still wanted to resemble my family, not have an obvious or Eurocentric nose that wouldn't fit me. Dr. Mao did a great job with both fixing my turbinates and listening to me ramble and try to put into words what I hoped my nose might look like. His chaotic sense of humor also put me at ease in a weird way (Sorry Dr. Mao). In the end, I can finally breathe well for the first time in thirty years. I kid you not, I was able to sleep better. Even my depression improved. The bonus is that my nose now looks like a natural part of my face...like how it always could have looked. No one notices, or they're too polite to ask. :)
Another bonus is the staff that work with Dr. Mao. Amanda is a great nurse! Super responsive to questions, encouraging and patient. I had my surgery at the surgical center in Trumbull where the nurses were some of the kindest and attentive people I've ever met. I just feel grateful.
