Consultation Disaster: Waste of Time and Money
Let me begin with saying that I did not end up getting surgery with Dr. Most. He actually refused to do my primary rhinoplasty which I will talk more about that later. This is my review for my consultation experience with him.
I heard about Dr. Most on the Plastic Surgery subreddit and was considering him as well as Dr. Chasan to do my primary rhinoplasty. I booked virtual consultations for both doctors. On 5/6/2021 I booked my virtual consultation ($75) with Dr. Most for 6/10/2021 (It was a month wait just to have the consult). However, on June 8th I received an email saying that Dr. Most was no longer offering virtual consultations and that I would have to reschedule an in person consultation with him instead. So I waited nearly a month for that virtual consult and 48 hours before it was scheduled they cancelled it on me which was very frustrating. So then I had to book an in person consultation which was $200, wait even longer for my appointment, and pay for extra travel expenses because I am an out of state patient.
When it was finally my time to see him for the consultation he seemed to believe I was a candidate for rhinoplasty and we discussed the changes that would be made to my nose, they took before pictures of me and then gave me the quote. However, I told him that I was going to get a lip lift done later that year so he told me I would have to wait until my lip lift healed and then return to retake the before pictures.
Fast forward, my lip lift is healed and I fly down again to get my before pictures retaken. However to my surprise, after speaking with him again he suddenly tells me that he does not think he would be able to improve my nose and that I would likely be unhappy with the results. I was not even expecting perfect results, but to improve it to some degree yet he told me it was not even possible. If this were the case, then why did he not tell me this the first time I saw him? Why would he tell me to come back if I apparently was not a good candidate for surgery?
I think he was put off because I made a comment about my nostrils being “extremely” asymmetrical (they were literally 2 different shapes) and he just felt that I am body dysmorphic and will never be satisfied with my appearance. It is kinda funny because after my first consult with him, it was actually written in the case notes that I had a nostril “deformity.” My guess is that my case was more complicated than other patients (my nose had multiple things I wanted to fix, as opposed to a patient who simply wants to remove their dorsal hump) and he was afraid that I would be too hypercritical and would ruin his patient satisfaction rate. I should have also mentioned that he makes you fill out these surveys about your relationship with your appearance as if they are screening the patients for body dysmorphia. Well I hate to break it to ya but I mean anyone who’s willing to spend a fortune to get surgery to change their appearance probably has body images to some extent so I don’t really understand why it’s an issue.
I was very disappointed because I honestly really wanted to get my nose done by him and had already invested a lot of time and money to go to these consultations. I was also planning on putting my consult fee ($200) towards the surgery, but since he refused to do it it would be nice to at least get a refund for that.
Also the quote I received from the other plastic surgeon I was considering (Dr. Chasan) was only good for a few months, and because Dr. Most wasted so much of my time, my quote for Dr. Chasan was no longer valid. After Dr. Most decided he would not do my rhinoplasty, I decided to pay for a second consultation with Dr. Chasan and my quote had gone up more than $1k.
In summary, it was a mistake to even consider Dr. Most and it ended up costing me in multiple ways (several thousands of dollars actually). But I am happy to say that I did actually end up going to Dr. Chasan instead (even though he raised his prices) and he did an amazing job on my nose! Think twice before scheduling your consult with Dr. Most, especially if you are an out of state patient. I wish luck to everyone on their plastic surgery journey!
