Office Review: Too Many Red Flags

ORIGINAL POST

Too many red flags

Date of Visit: 14/1/2021
Procedure: Rhinoplasty

Worst clinic I’ve been to and I’m someone who visits aesthetic clinics regularly and had a surgery done with a local doctor. I went for a consultation for rhinoplasty with Dr. Chia and was actually quite happy with her recommendations. However, things went downhill after that. As soon as the consultation ended, their staff, Phyllis, reminded me repeatedly to pay for a deposit to book a surgery date. There was no further information shared about things to look out for, recovery process, etc. She just kept bringing up about the deposit because “it’s part of the policy”. I was really considering to go ahead with the surgery until I realised that my work contract was ending around the available surgery slots. I told Phyllis that I might not be able to stay in Singapore for post-op reviews and asked if they could support my visit pass extension if needed, or alternatively, put me on an earlier surgery date. She said that Dr. Chia can’t help with it because it’s just a cosmetic surgery. This was a major red flag for me and got me scared because a cosmetic surgery is still a surgery. Especially now that we’re in the pandemic, it’s not easy to travel in and out of the country. Where am I supposed to go in case of emergencies? I asked Phyllis again if they could check with the relevant authorities or drop them an email for more information. I was completely ghosted. They didn’t even bother to explain anything so I could make necessary arrangements accordingly. Another red flag was they only had a handful of before-after photos? Like there were only 4 or 5 successful cases? Dr. Chia said it was because they did not get the consent from their patients. Didn’t doubt that at first, but now looking at how irresponsible and unreliable they are, maybe they just lack of experience in rhino.

I eventually went to another doctor who explained everything from surgery options, possible risks, what I need to do before and after the surgery, and showed me a sufficient number of before-after photos as my reference. It was so professionally done as if I went to a seminar. They also helped check on the suitable visas for me. It’s worth noting that for some doctors, the consultation fee will be waived off upon confirmation, but not for SW1. SW1 will also tell you that there will be no post-op review charges but this is actually quite common with other doctors. In fact, they have the most miscellaneous charges as compared to other doctors I’ve seen. Please do your research and speak to at least 2 doctors before making your decision. If you were to spend $10-20k might as well make your money worth.
