2 Rhinoplasty - Complete Disappointment
Toronto28September 10, 2020
I have met Dr. Asaria in 2019 to fix a crooked nose due to deviated septum, which also affected my breathing. I also wanted to trim down my dorsal hump but do keep a masculine and strong appearance to my nose.
During my consultation, he had explained me the difficulty of fixing a crooked nose and that I would be looking at a 70% improvement.
I have to give it to him that the recovery was smooth and easy. Although, after a year of my surgery, both me and Dr. Asaria agreed that my nose was still very crooked and the result was unsatisfactory.
He had then offered me a revision procedure using soft tissue grafted from my ear. This procedure would be a closed rhinoplasty and the only incision would be behind my ear.
After I removed the bandages off on the 5th day as directed by the doctor, I have realized that my nose looked more crooked than the starting point. Also, there was a very visible incision with sutures on the left side of my nose. It has been 3 months since my surgery and the scar is still pretty visible and it is right on my nose.
He saw me for a follow up and had told me himself that he knew he made it worse after seeing the result. He had offered me a 3rd surgery to fix it - and this would be another open rhinoplasty like the first one. This is where I lost my trust and I consulted 4 other surgeons in Toronto about the situation.
The consensus was that my deviated septum was never fixed. My breathing was never improved either because of that. All 4 of the surgeons had told me that fixing the septum and supporting it would be the right way of addressing the crookedness and this would also improve my breathing.
I definitely advise anyone who is considering a rhinoplasty to get a second opinion before proceeding with him as I was misinformed regarding the possibilities of a rhinoplasty and became a case where Dr. Asaria performed a trial-error method on me.
To sum my journey with Dr. Asaria up - 11.5k CAD, 2 years and 2 scars (one behind the ear, one right on the nose) and a slightly improved side profile and an unacceptably more crooked nose than what I naturally had.
I do thankfully have a new date booked with an experienced surgeon who had explained me in details how he will straighten my deviated septum, which will make my nose look straighter from the front and make my nostrils look more even, which Dr. Asaria told me that altering nostrils' position was impossible. He will also have to get rid of the soft tissue graft as it was placed in a position that gives an illusion that the nose is even more crooked. I wish I did my research before blindly trusting him.
The only thing that was accomplished after 2 surgeries was that my side profile was improved. However, one side looks very different than the other side due to the unfixed deviated septum.
I also would lastly like to note that the communication I had with his staff regarding next steps were very dismissive and delayed. It is really valuable to feel the care after your surgery should anything goes wrong and you will not find it in this clinic. Also be prepared to wait at least 30-40 mins past your appointment time. Not for the first consultation though, until you book the procedure and pay for it - things do go pretty smooth.
Do your research and consider the years of experience your surgeon has before proceeding if you don't want to make the same mistake I did. It is your face. Do it once, do it right and don't become a trial patient for someone who has no idea what he is doing.
