The Right Choice in Surgeon

The Right Choice in Surgeon
WORTH IT$26,000
I’m writing this at 3 weeks post-op after taking some time to carefully think about what I wanted to say to anyone considering Dr. Reish.
For context, I’m originally from Massachusetts but currently live in North Carolina. I traveled to New York for my surgery, and I can confidently say it was worth every mile. I waited 19 years to have rhinoplasty. Not because I wasn’t sure I wanted a rhinoplasty- I had wanted one since I was 16, but because I knew that if I was ever going to trust someone with my face, I wanted to be absolutely certain I had found the right surgeon. One of the things that initially put Dr. Reish on my short list was the number of revision patients he treats. To me, that says a lot. When things go wrong, people want the best person they can find to fix them. I felt confident that I would be less likely to have complications or need a revision from a surgeon known to handle complex revision rhinoplasties so beautifully. I’d be remiss not to mention his credentials that show a long history of dedication and academic success. One thing that almost stopped me from booking a consultation though, was seeing someone mention that their consult was only 10 minutes long. That made me nervous. Not that I needed an hour-long appointment, but because I worried he might be what some southerners might describe as “one of those fast-talking New Yorkers” who gets you in and out so quickly that you wonder whether he’s really invested in you as a patient. Ironically my consultation was about 12 minutes long. It wasn’t rushed- I had a page long of questions and I came fully prepared. By the time it ended, there wasn’t really anything left to ask. Everything I had spent years researching, wondering about, and overthinking had been addressed clearly and confidently. It wasn’t rushed. It was highly efficient. The biggest sticking point for me was that I wanted some way to visualize my future nose before committing. I asked twice for anything that might help me understand what the result could look like. Instead of giving me a sales pitch, Dr. Reish explained why he doesn’t approach rhinoplasty that way and helped me understand what I should actually be evaluating when choosing a surgeon. For me, that became his body of work. Looking through and studying his long-term patient results told me far more than any computer-generated image ever could. Rhinoplasty requires technical skill, but it also requires artistic judgment. At some point you have to look at a surgeon’s portfolio and ask yourself whether you’re aligned with that surgeon’s aesthetic. Is this their style? Is this your style? Is their work your vibe? For me, the answer was yes. My goal was never to look like someone else. I didn’t want a trendy nose or a different face. I wanted to look like myself, just without the features that had bothered me for years.Dr. Reish understood that immediately. Ultimately, I decided that between his impressive academic background, his obvious passion for his work, his commitment to educating patients, and his gallery of long-term results, he was the right choice for me. Booking surgery was almost uncomfortably easy for my Type-A personality. I’m someone who likes to plan. I like details. I like knowing exactly what comes next. There was surprisingly little for me to do because the office had already thought of everything. The team works incredibly well together. Questions get answered. Calls get returned. Everyone knows exactly what they’re doing. As someone with a healthcare administration background and a consulting mindset, what stood out to me most was how seamlessly the entire office operated. Teams don’t function that well by accident. It’s a reflection of leadership, culture, and people who genuinely care about the work they’re doing. This wasn’t my first plastic surgery, but it was by far the easiest surgical experience I’ve ever had. Honestly, I’ve had dental cleanings that felt more stressful. Dr. Dan McDonnell, my anesthesiologist, was phenomenal. The nurses were everything you hope for when you’re putting your trust in other people: warm, kind, intelligent, supportive, and genuinely caring. When surgery day finally arrived and I met Dr. Reish in person, he was exactly who he appears to be in his videos: warm, highly technical, thoughtful, and deeply passionate about what he does. What I appreciated most was realizing that the person in those videos isn’t a carefully crafted version of Dr. Reish for the camera. It’s just Dr. Reish. The warmth, authenticity, and enthusiasm are exactly the same in person. What surprised me most was his bedside manner. Surgeons with this level of technical ability don’t always excel at the human side of medicine. Dr. Reish does both exceptionally well. He makes you feel cared for while also making you feel completely confident that you’re in capable hands. Most importantly, he has continued to be available throughout recovery. Every text I’ve sent has been answered, and every concern has been taken seriously. Before my consult I was worried he wouldn’t be invested. He turned out to be incredibly invested. You truly couldn’t ask for a better surgeon. At only 3 weeks post-op, I still have normal swelling and healing ahead of me. But I already know with complete certainty that choosing Dr. Reish was the right decision. I waited 19 years to make it, and I’d make the same choice again.
