My breathing was much worse - aloof and unsympathetic surgeon
ORIGINAL POST
Please Don't Let Dr. Cory Torgerson Touch Your Face
$6,800
I wrote this review initially 6 months after my surgery but deleted it before it was posted out of fear of repercussion by Dr. Torgerson. I was already in a fragile emotional state and didn't feel like receiving a nasty message from his office. I actually had the surgery at the end of 2016.
However, I'm finally on the other side of things. I had a revision rhinoplasty with Dr. Myung Lee in South Korea (yes I had to go to SK to find someone who could fix my nose), am currently loving my nose and feel comfortable using my voice to help anyone I can.
I wish I felt comfortable posting pics of my face online but I don't--so if you are considering this doctor and really want to see pics of his work, you can inbox me.
BEFORE SURGERY
Upon initial consultation, Dr. Torgerson impressed me. I had seen his appearances on CBC, he did 3D imaging on my face to predict the changes which looked fabulous, and he had a nice Yorkville clinic. My case was fairly straight forward aesthetically--I just wanted a slight hump removed and my right nostril's breathing was a bit constructed. Dr. Torgerson assured me he could fix both issues.
DAY OF SURGERY
I was told to be there at 6am, had to wait 15 minutes outside the clinic before a nurse arrived and she frustratingly asked what time they told me to arrive. I wish I ran away right then and there. When I woke up from surgery, the nurse put me in a wheelchair for my mom to take me downstairs. My mom was waiting outside and no one had said a word to me about aftercare. I asked the nurse about my medication and she told me to call the Uber and she would explain to me quickly before it arrived. I told her to take her time running through post-op instructions and then I would call my ride. I have had plastic surgery in Brazil for a breast lift (where my family is from), and South Korea for my revision and the experiences in both places were a million times better than how I was treated at Dr. Torgerson's clinic.
AFTER SURGERY
I didn't take the cast off until 7 days later when the nurses replaced it with tape. It wasn't until about 9 days later when I decided to take the tape off and see what my new nose looked like. I cried for 3 days straight. I barely recognized who I saw in the mirror- my nose was short and pig-like. Dr. Torgerson assured me it was just the swelling and so I waited.
After about a month it was apparent that there was residual swelling but also that my nose wasn't about to magically grow or reposition itself. I started seeking revision specialists and asked Dr. Torgerson's office for my operative note. It turns out any revision I had would be far from routine--Dr. Torgerson had used a medpor implant in my nose and removed the cartilage, something he had NEVER told me about. If he had, I would have never gone through with the surgery. I've always maintained I don't want any artificial implants in my body, and especially not my face. On top of the aesthetic issues, my breathing was much worse than before. I could barely eat a full meal because I didn't to mouth breathe. This was undoubtedly the darkest time in my life. I would wake up every morning hoping it was all a nightmare, look in the mirror and break down.
Dr. Torgerson was aloof and unsympathetic. He told me he disclosed he would put an implant in, which is an absolute lie. He offered me a revision for $1000 and after doing more research I refused. Your nose can collapse if overly worked on and I knew I had to find a surgeon who was skilled at re-building other doctor's mistakes.
A year and a half later, all of the problems persisted and I saved up $14,000 for a revision. I thank goodness for Dr. Lee every day. Please stay away from Dr. Cory Torgerson.

He botched my nose once and I let him screw it up for a second time (shame on me) ... Like everyone else I can’t breathe properly and I will be having a revision in the US by a professional facial plastic surgeon !!!
