I Didn’t Plan to Get a Rhinoplasty

While hiking, I tripped on some rocks, fell and broke my nose. It was a very traumatic break and after visiting the ER (concussion, embedded rocks in my hands and head), I called Dr. Hartley’s office to schedule a consult. I had the option to only do the internal repair (covered by insurance) or to add the cosmetic portion to ensure a pleasing aesthetic result. I also could have done the structural repair first and done the cosmetic part in the future, if I wasn’t pleased with the results.
I didn’t want to go through multiple surgeries and was fairly certain that I wouldn’t be satisfied with the structural-only repair, so elected to do the full surgery.
It was a pretty difficult recovery- likely due to two rounds of trauma two weeks apart. The bruising under my eyes from the initial break went away within a week, but the bruising post-surgery took 6-7 weeks to dissipate. The swelling took a few months to go away.
I still have some nerve/numbness between my eyebrows, but I understand that full healing takes up to 12 months.
At this point, I’m happy with my results, but I really hope not to have to go through a rhinoplasty again!!!
