Big Mistake. I regret it every day

Big Mistake

Unozero10
I decided to write this review 17 months after Thomas Mustoe did my nose.
It’s hard not to beat myself up over my decision to get rhinoplasty in the first place or for not doing proper research on the technical aspects and what can happen if you don’t understand what techniques your surgeon will perform. I regret it every day. As my nose while a bit larger than normal was ok and I considered myself and was by others too as a good looking guy. I just wanted a small change to narrow the bridge. The tip was fine. We just talked about fixing the slight droopiness, but Dr. Mustoe reduced or shaved off the cartilage that supported my tip and nostrils and by doing this he gave me a pinched nose that is collapsed both sides and especially on one side. Initially with swelling you could not notice as much. Now it is really noticeable.
The tip is crooked and points to one side, it’s pinched, bulbous and narrow. Also looks upturned on one side.
It’s true that almost no one notices that I had something done and that I am still a much worse yet similar version of my self. However, I am a much uglier version as the changes that were made although not directly noticeable to people that I had work on my nose they do comment that I look different or skinny, tired etc.
For some time I could not really wrap my head around what was the issue with the nose. One nostril was more collapsed and it was all slanted to one side. He also made the distance from my nose to my lips larger which is something we never discussed and is not attractive at all. That distance should never be made longer. Because nose was skinnier on one side Mustoe used fat grafting which did not produce much results and then filler to fill in that area, but the asymmetric nose tip problem persisted.
It was hard for me to understand what was really the problem.
After a lot of research I was able to finally pinpoint the problem and now understand that after shaving off cartilage my tip lost support and it’s width which made it nice, natural and fit my face well. One nostril is much smaller than the other so it’s more collapsed but both sides are collapsed due to lack of support.
My last consultation with Mustoe went terribly he did not let me talk and just went on and on about what a good surgeon he is and how he did not know how to help me when I said I was not happy. Did not let me say a word. Treated me like I was crazy and needed to stop looking at my nose. Did not want to talk or listen to me about the issues. Two other surgeons immediately saw the issues I have described. I think Mustoe is right that he can’t help me.
I wish I would have gone elsewhere or if with Mustoe just told him to only reduce the hump because I think for something simple like this he would have been good. Should have never let him touch my tip as he really ruined a perfectly fine tip. I made a big mistake of trusting this doctor with such an important part of my face mainly because he said it would only look like I got a haircut and no one would notice and he seemed very confident Harvard degree and I like his office and staff and he was good with follow ups, but I’m very disappointed and sad about the results.
I did not take this seriously enough and just read all good reviews online and said ok this should be easy, but the good reviews can be misleading. I would warn everyone to be very careful about any doctor using techniques that reduce/shave your cartilage or support for your tip or nose. Don’t make the same life changing and destroying mistake I made.
I will now have to take a big second risk and hopefully get back to a normal tip with a revision, but I will say I’m scared to do it, but don’t want to keep messing with filler or fat grafting as I believe they could just make matters worse in the long haul.

I'm sorry for your experience! I've had fat grafting recommended for my nose irregularities. Was this done during surgery or after. Would you be open to connecting via PM?

It was done after. It did not help much. I think where you put it you get lots of absorption.
