I look more feminine & 5+ years younger because nose doesn't droop over top lip

I'm over the Moon

WORTH IT
I was about 14 years old when I reached the tipping point and was ready for rhinoplasty. I had inherited my Grandad's nose, and, God love him, but he wasn't a teenage girl. I wanted cute and pretty, and I had big and bulbous. Rhinoplasty wasn't accessible to me, financially or actually, so that was it and life went on.

I always hated the way I looked in photo's (hair okay, clothes okay, oh, look at the nose) and realise now that I learnt to avoid looking at it whenever I was putting on make-up etc, but the reservations and disapproval were still the background noise to my daily life. I did a lot of yoga in my 30's and early 40's and became more comfortable with my inner world and generally happier, so it was always a surprise to see that the new lighter and more femimine way I was feeling wasn't there in photographs of me.

Then, at age 43 I met a friend who had had rhinoplasty in Turkey (this has it's own issues, with a lack of pre-op consultations or psychological assesments and no longer term follow up appointments, not to mention the plastic tubes inserted in the nostrils after surgery which sound painful to remove and which Julian Rowe-Jones thankfully doesn't use), she'd had a bulbous nose before too, and joyfully tried to explain how life changing her surgery had been. I also inherited some money. So that was it. I started researching rhinoplasty surgeon's in the UK and of course "before and after" photo's (don't we get addicted to those) to see what results are possible with rhinoplasty now. Julian Rowe-Jones ticked a lot of boxes for me (medical training at St Thomas's Hospital and being a specialist in rhinoplasty were both very important to me, and I particularly liked how calm and pragmatic Julain came across as being in his video's).

By the time it came to the surgery (thanks covid) I was very anxious and Julian took the time to understand why and see what would put my mind at rest (I was worried about the anaesthetic) and then I was ready. The theatre team were lovely, and before I knew it I was lying down in a recovery room taking selfies of my new nose, complete with cast, and eating sandwiches. I loved it straight away. At home after the endorphins had worn off I settled in to a routine of tv and suture/nostril care. I definitly recommend a neck pillow for sleeping and a cold flannel for your forehead for days 2 and 3, but paracetomol held me just fine. The bone didn't have to be broken during surgery, so I didn't get bruising around my eyes and only had a slightly puffy face. Two weeks later I was back at work. Straight after the surgery I felt so much lighter, like a weight had been lifted off of my face! It's amazing how something that was never you in the first place can become second nature. All that self-doubt. I look back gently at the unhappy person that I was before.

My favourite benefits since the surgery are walking tall, looking other people full in the face, looking more feminine, and the unexpected side effect: looking 5+ years younger because your nose doesn't droop down over your top lip anymore. I love that one! Yes, inner work is really important and valuable, but being yourself on the outside is important too, as is freeing up your mental energy to get on with more important things. I think my Grandad would be happy for me. Thankyou Julian.
