Lipo-retouch Update

Okay, so an update. I ended up developing fibrosis and ended up going back for stomach liposuction (since you can’t do a tummy tuck and stomach liposuction at once). I stayed at the hospital a few nights and did the massages at their spa clinic and I have to share some real concerns about their practices.

Hospital and Drs:
That was great. No real issues there. Everyone was friendly. The only issue was the A\C for the rooms would turn off at night and it would get hella hot ???? (80 degrees).

Clinic (oh boy):
1. Torchure: they are NOT gentle. You will scream and cry. I passed out from the pain. At one point I had 3 people working on my at same time (one was training) I told him that I couldn’t have more than one person working on an area at a time, cause it was way too painful. They stopped, but then they would go back in an effort to train the other lady. I was so exhausted from the pain I would get home and pass out for 4-5 hours.

2. They cut q-tips to make pointy angles to re-open cuts to drain. Half the time they didn’t use gloves.

3. They have their kids running around and one 4 or 5 yr old boy) came in opened the door and started asking his mom about food while I’m there butt naked trying cover myself and not to pass out from the pain! Very awkward and uncomfortable! I don’t let my own kids see me naked at that age. It happened 3 more times through out my sessions.

One day, they forgot to book me, so I had to find someone else ASAP since you have to do the massages every day. I found a med spa in San Juan, and holy crap, what a difference! She had surgical grade individually wrapped stainless steel pins to reopen wounds for drainage (not unsterile qtips), used gloves the entire time. She was gentle and was able to remove and drain as effectively with hardly any pain!!! The owner explained how the extreme pressure and deep kneeding massage technique was obsolete, and has not been recommended for years because it was found to cause fibrosis. She explained how that’s how she learned at first too, but that was over a decade ago. And through continuing education classes, new techniques have come out. I cried, knowing I was tortured for no damn reason….literally cried. I was seriously scared and have mini-anxiety attacks thinking I had to go into a massage. I would get home, walking around feeling better (no crash afterwards). Was still painful, but way more tolerable. And she was HALF the price! I stopped going to the da Vinci spa, and just went to her exclusively after that.

I’m finishing up week 2 of recovery but I’ll post pictures after week 3.

Done!

Yesterday was the day! They had me stay the night so I could receive medication at midnight. My arms and upper abdomen are what hurt the most. I think it’s because I have to pull myself side to side to help them change bed padding. Brushing on my sides, but I LOVE how thin my incision is...mush thinner than I expected. I’ll be sure to post before and afters later.

Final Consult done in Reynosa, MX Clinic and Booked!

So, my sister ended up doing her surgery first (back in April with this Dr) and she does not regret it one bit. She had full body lipo and breast lift and honestly, she came out looking awesome! So, I was much more confident in booking, which I did for later this month. I love the fact that the clinic is so close to the bridge. I'm literally there in less than 5 min after crossing. Clinic is nice and clean (way cleaner and modern than Dr. Ghafoori in Harlingen). The staff is super nice, excellent customer service. The Dr's are very supportive and comforting. I have the surgery booked for the 23rd of this month. Going to get my bloodwork done tomorrow there at their office (they have labratory folks come out there to take blood for $40) much cheaper than doing it at the McAllen lab they work with (and that's with insurance), but you have to be fasting.
I decided to get tummy tuck, 360 lipo on arms/back and bichectomy. Payment is due on the day of surgery, they accept Credit Card, Direct Bank Wire Transfer or cash (of course). I also saw an advertisement for CareCredit at their office, so financing may now be an option as well. Eitherway, looking forward to it.
Taking what I learned from my sister and preparing. Here are some tips:
1.) You have to get a surgical grade compression suit (aka: faja). There's a company called "Fajas y Fajas" there in Hidalgo just before you get to the bridge. They actually will go to the clinic to drop it off for you if you need one last minute, but I suggest you get one before to be prepared so you understand how to put it on. They are pricey ($140) and you will need 2. As you get smaller, you will need a smaller size to keep you nice and tight!
2.) You are going to bleed....A LOT (be prepared for your bed to look like a murder scene)! So mattress protector (waterproof) and bedpads are a MUST. You can get some at Walmart. Use old towels to clean up the mess as you go to and from the bathroom or walk around....you will drip blood from drains (almost like a small continuous leak). Don't freak out, it's normal and only for the first 3-4 days.
3.) MASSAGE to encourage more draining. When you shower, massage the areas to help drain the liquid out. This is something my sister didn't do and had a lot of retention. More drainage means less retention and faster healing.
4.) Walk around (it will be messy at first) but you can't just stay in bed. You need to encourage draining, if not the fluids will just travel to your back if you stay laying down for too long. This is what happened to my sister and she had a ton of liquid in her back. She had to go to clinic to be drained (it was very messy!), but she learned her lesson!
5.) You will feel the pain by the 3rd day. You will feel great the first couple of days, don't let that fool you - take it easy, don't hurt yourself by doing too much thinking you are fine because you don't feel anything. It's the pain meds still in your system. At day 3 - 4 you will feel the pain, and if you got the full body lipo, like my sister, you will feel like a train hit you. According to Drs and other ladies, the lipo is what hurts the most. Be sure to take the pain medications and antibiotics they give you to help with pain management. It's an extra $40-$50, but they take it to the clinic so you have everything you need when you leave and no additional trips to pharmacy.
6.) Go to massage therapist specializing in after surgery massages to help encourage circulation and drainage. This helps the body heal WAY faster and makes you feel much better. They have a massages at the clinic or they will recommend a lady in McAllen.
Hope this helps! I'll be sure to keep you updated and will post the before and after pictures. = )
