Revision rhino/septo experience
WORTH IT$9,050
When I had my primary rhino 2 years ago, I was very disappointed with the amount of projection that remained and the general shape of the nose. I researched many doctors and went to see several for consults.
My revision procedure was 4pm Wed March 22 in Utah. I was in surgery for (I believe) 2.5 hours and had a positive recovery experience afterward. I was groggy but not nauseated as in the past, and they gave me gluten free crackers wich is important as I am severely intolerant! I am now resting comfortably with little pain in my airbnb rental only 10 minutes away.
They used cartilage from behind one ear which is actually a bit painful but manageable. I am interested to learn about how that was used. I appreciated them giving me a choice as to which ear as well.
Already I can see significant improvements and am feeling good about the decsion.
Price reflects just the cost of revision procedure, does not include travel, accommodations, meds, etc. However I am happy with the the affordability.

Lots of good news this time around. First…
Lots of good news this time around. First off, I can breathe a little bit through my nose which is a huge blessing. The oozing has slowed to where I can remove the dressing when awake and lying down. I have been able to get up, walk around, and juice some veggies for myself as well as make toast, and I began the prednisone this morning.
As you can see from the photos, bruising is minimal and concentrated between my eyes and to my ear, which is becoming a lovely shade of eggplant.
Very little pain. Last time, I remember this horrible pressure in my face that was painful for days. Happy to report, none of that now. My throat was quite sore yesterday as if I had strep throat, from the device used to keep my airway open, but ithe too is subsiding. I had some severe shaking a few times from the anesthesia in the 1st 12 hours, but again that is gone now.
I'm weaning off the pain meds, as it is mostly for the pain from the concheal harvest site in my ear which is manageable as long as i dont bump it or lay on it. I'm taking probiotic, prebiotic (fermented ginger kimchi, yum!), as well as drinking LOTS.
I'm pleased things have been so easy this time around and I'm so comfortable. I am looking forward to touching base with the doctor at follow up or before to learn about what specifically was done, as I am a science nerd and always love to learn about these things (even more so when it's my own body).
Please reach out with questions, for support if you are preparing to have a revision or considering it, or if you are recovering. I was very scared going into this revision after such a difficult experience last time, so I know what it is like.

Oof, good question! It is a really hard process. The first surgery I knew so little. The second time I did more research and also went with my gut. It's important to choose someone who communicates well (a swers all your questions patiently, responds to emails and calls, understands what you want) and images. If they show you something that is not what you want, and you communicate this and they still show you something you don't 100% like, don't go with them. Every surgeon is a sort if artist and just like the Greats they all have their own style. Loom at the other noses they have done and be highly critical in your own mind. If you don't like some if their noses, take into account yours could come out like that. Of course, they are not magicians. They can only do so much and control so much post surgery and the body has a memory and it's own 'style. It's very complicated. The best thing I can say is TAKE YOUR TIME. don't rush this. You have the rest of your life. If it goes wrong you will lose money, sanity, time, and (sometimes) parts if your nose you can't get back. Make up your mind, then wait 3 months and reasses. Sometimes the excitement of a possible new nose can cloud decision making. Thinks a really big deal. I hope that helps! Best of luck to you! Xo

Day 2 With photos
Day 2 and the swelling has increased right on schedule, specifically around my eyes and the bridge of my nose between the eyebrows, where it is very swollen and tender to the touch. I have had no luck uploading photos this time around unfortunately. Hope to get that sorted.
Overall pain is still low but the itching under the cast has started, and I would classify things as mild to moderate discomfort. Im taking 1/2 pain pills at 5-6 hour intervals so it's to be expected. I'm very pleased with how it looks and have begun imagining what it looks like under the cast, and when the tip drops a bit (which I've seen just about everyone's do).
The incision is truly barely noticeable. He did such an extraordinary job! I am amazed and hope for no scar. Also, I believe he was able to take out the alar grafts from my previous surgery which were bulking up my tip. I'm so so happy about that. Can't wait for my follow up!
It snowed here in Utah yesterday but today the sun is shining and I hope to go sit outside for a bit.
