WORTH IT
Hi all, I am now 11.5 months post op and in Istanbul for an in person check up with Dr Oguz.
This was my 4th surgery and I needed rib and ear cartilage grafts and a composite paste to smooth everything over to reconstruct my nose internally. My nose had very little support and collapsed nostrils. Due to amount of work done / previous surgeries, it will be around the 18 month to 2 year mark that all my swelling will be gone.
I wanted to see the doctor in person again to just see how much swelling I had left and check out all the grafts. I had a higher risk of warping more due to the amount of grafts needed, albeit they all look good to me.
Dr Oguz confirmed the swelling is exactly where I've thought it is, mostly on the nose walls into the cheeks and believes about 10 to 15 percent swelling remains. All my grafts are healthly and have healed well. He noted a slight deviation present; I am extra swollen from the flight, lack of sleep and also I have a cold/flu, so it could very well be that the more swelling on the left of my nose is pulling it over. I can see this also myself, but it does look worse than usual at the moment, so hopefully it will resolve with the swelling leaving. If not, he advised it's a very simple local anaesthetic touch up involving a couple of stitches internally to bring the nose back straight. The only other thing of note is right in the tip there is a millimeter or two more graft survival on the left than on the right. It is barely noticeable, but he said also that, if it bothers me, it is again just a simple touch up under local anaesthetic.
So, for the future, I want to wait the next 6 to 12 months, have the rest of the swelling resolve and see how the two minor assymetries are then. I don't think anyone other than a professional or any of us rhino fanatics would notice it and it is a lot less noticeable in person than it is on a photo. I think it's really important not to let perfect become the enemy of good, that aphorism really resonates with me. Whatever I decide, it is so reassuring to me though that Dr Oguz offers the retouches if wanted, even though they're not needed in my case, as my previous surgeons all made me feel like I was crazy and imagining functional and aesthetic things with my nose.
Overall, I am very happy with my result at this stage and can whole heartedly recommend Dr Oguz and his team. Having had three rhinoplasty surgeries previously, they are the first ones who appear to genuinely care about me and my happiness and just seem like lovely people. Dr Oguz is very knowledgeable and skilled in my opinion. I knew as soon as I saw my nose on day 7 that I wouldn't need another surgery and had happy tears for the first time and that remains true that I no longer need more surgery. Improvement is the key with all surgery, especially revision cases, my nose is not perfect, but a good, strong, working nose that allows me to aesthetically blend in naturally with everyone else, which is all I've ever wanted and I am ever grateful for that.

Photos did not load on last update below. Thank goodness for my Facebook posts and screen shotting as would've taken agesss to retype everything that hasn't saved here. All I can think is it must be my home Internet, as I live in a small village, it's not always the best for technology!!

Re-post - 8.5 months
Haven't updated in a while, been recovering from my fatality at work (I'm a train driver). I'm 8.5 months post op and have Covid AGAIN, but was having a really good nose day when I took this.
I'm recovering well from surgery and of course my work incident. Swelling is still present and up and down with heat and diet as normal. All my grafts are healthy and breathing still great. I lost my retainer in April at around 4.5 month post op, so haven't worn one since then.
Improvement is the key thing in rhinoplasty, but particularly multiple revision cases like myself.
I will try to update more again. Second pic is a day out at the beach with my babies last week.
