Honest and Detailed Review - PLEASE READ!! Best Decision I Have Ever Made
I wanted to share my experience through this review as I conducted extensive research before going ahead with my second Rhinoplasty and I hope my story might assist someone in making a crucial decision in their life, just as it did for me. Please bear with me as this will be a detailed account, but I believe it's essential to provide all the details I wish I had when I was conducting my research.
This was my second Rhinoplasty, and I must express my satisfaction with Dr. Ion, who has been nothing short of exceptional. He's a true perfectionist and an artist. When you are trying to change something on your face this is exactly what you need to find in a Dr who is going to change parts of your face! The impact on my life, particularly in terms of confidence and the aesthetic transformation of my nose, has been a resounding 10/10. Considering the magnitude of this decision, I deliberated extensively before proceeding with my second procedure, and I am immensely grateful that I chose Dr. Ion.
To provide context, my initial rhinoplasty in 2018 with Mr. Alwyn D'Souza left me with a larger nose and unresolved straightness issues that worsened over time, negatively affecting my confidence. In my pursuit of a solution, I contacted Mr. Waterhouse and Mr. Basim Matti, both of whom were recommended. Mr. Waterhouse couldn't operate on my nose after sending in some pictures to see if he could help and suggested Mr. Amir Sadri. However, my experience with Mr. Sadri was very poor and left me feeling terrified and doomed and that my nose was VERY complicated and should be left alone and that he highly recommended not to operate on it as it might make is WORSE!!! He said I was searching for perfection and insisted I see a psychologist, and even then after seeing the psycologist there was no guarantee of the procedure ( it was going to cost me £250 for this "test") It made me feel l like I was INSANE. I was frustrated after seeing him twice and him still not giving me an answer I felt he was wasting my time. I think perhaps looking back he wasn't experienced enough and that's why he couldn't give me a yes or no on whether he could operate on me.
Some good did come out of seeing Dr. Sadri as he mentioned Dr. Ion as one of the best in London for revision rhinoplasty, along with Charles East. I researched Dr. Ion, finding a mix of positive and negative reviews. However I decided to book a consultation with Dr. Ion and he was extrememly reassuring. He was calm, listened to what I wanted, demonstrated extensive knowledge, and we designed my perfect nose together on his computer. I sort of tested him and said is my nose impossible to operate on and he shrugged and said no which sort of made me feel at ease as he showed me many many pictures of clients he has done in that year so felt he was extrememly experienced. He explained using the rib cartilage was a necessity for achieving the desired results which before I didnt feel comfortable about but then relised i needed it to be right and would do whatever it takes to make this right. I also consulted with Basim Matti who was the other Dr who was recommended to me previously.
My meeting with Basim Matti raised red flags. His dated office, the proposal to use ear cartilage (contrary to widely recommended rib cartilage - ear is alot more bendy and not as strong), outdated 2014 photos of rhinoplasty procedures and nothing since, and a request to consult with my previous surgeon, Mr. Alwyn, left me uneasy. I left thinking straight away I was going to be using Dr Ion through and through and Mr Basim Mati I didn't want to go anywhere near my nose.
I booked my op for the 31st October ( Halloween lol! I was in 2 minds - this is either going to save me and my confidence or this is going to turn me into a scary monster who I would hate to look at in the mirror even more that I did before!!)
I went to see Dr Ion one more time to go through everything and was feeling calm and had faith he could help me.
Went in at 7am to the Weymouth hospital the staff were all amazing! Kept me calm! Dr Ion came into see me before I went down to the theatre and went through all that we have spoken about before and what we were trying to achieve.
When I woke up Dr Ion was there in the recovery room and told me all went well I then went back to my room to recover and my partner came to pick me up and I was out of the hospital by 4.30pm. My Rib hurt a bit getting up out of bed and putting clothes and getting into the car but was manageable.
We got home and ordered a Lebanese and for the FIRST time in years I could actually taste the lamb! I dont know what happened in the op but it brought my taste buds back! I went to sleep feeling really good and I could breath in and out of the packs in my nose. There was alot of bleeding but I just put a pad under my nose and taped it so I didn't have to keep wiping my nose which was making it sore. Pain was minimal.
The next day...WOW I felt like I had been hit by a bus. I was taking paracetamol and ibuprofen as didn't want to take the stronger medication. The swelling was pretty minimal at this point. Bit uncomfortable and my nose started to feel a bit more blocked.
Day 3 - Packing day removal. By this day I was ready to breath and was feeling aggravated!! Bruising ( I took anica btw the day of the opp and the days following) started to come out. My partner left to go on a trip so was left alone and in a way was probably the best thing as just wanted to be left alone. My nose was blocked and I was just aggravated. I remember thinking omg i just want these packs out as I cant breath! Rosie the nurse was amazing and took the packs out and then the stitches. I was In a bit of pain and the stitches hurt a little but wow it was a relief to have the packing out. Still a bit blocked but this passes. Felt a million times better. Please be aware - having an op ( I forgot about this the first time I had rhinoplasty) as I wasnt taking the hard core pain killers there are times where you think to yourself I am really not okay and just hurt and I had this like home sick feeling even though I was at home. I think you are feeling really venerable as your body is in shock - no one really talks about this in any other review I have read and I have read millions - but this feeling does pass! I didnt want to take the strong meds as my partner snapped his ACL and had a horrible time coming off the pain killers.
I didnt leave the house for the rest of the week apart from taking my dog out for a walk. I am not a gamer... but we have an Xbox in the house which has never been used - however I played on this most of the time which really helped distract me! When I did go outside I just walked around with a mask as I didnt want anyone to see what I had done and this was perfect as meant I could get out and have some fresh air and move my body which i think helps alot along with a healthy diet!
Day 7- Cast off.... Rosie again was amazing! The Cast came off and I was like here we gooo...!! And as soon as I looked in the mirror I burst into tears as I think I was just so emotional and worried after all DR Sadri has said in scaring me that so many things with my nose could go wrong... it looked AMAZING! I said to Rosie how grateful I was all that they had done we had a giggle at me crying! I was SO swollen though and looked like an avatar for the 1st 4 days. This does go down. I was icing like MAD and taping my nose at night which really helps. Also my face was so swollen and so was told to lean on my hang on my face to bring the swelling down.. this helped alot!!
I am writing this 6 weeks after my operation as I my follow up this morning with Dr Ion and I will keep you update but I just cannot thank Dr Ion enough. I have been meaning to write a review and time has just gone by so quickly but I hope this helps someone make the decision as its a difficult one putting all your trust into someone you dont know! Dr Ion truly is skilled and I am so glad I went with my gut and trusted him! He cares so much and this has changed my life and confidence already and we are only 6 weeks in. I know you see these reviews and think yeah yeah but honestly If you are considering a rhinoplasty surgeon I would recommended Dr Ion through and through!
Also I forgot to mention - I actually contacted one of Dr Ions patients who left a review and found her via instagram and messaged her, I think if it wasn't for her and her speaking to me I would be still pondering. So thank you! You know who you are!!! XX
I will keep you updated! Good luck if you are considering getting Rhinoplasty - Please please do your research!! and Thank you AGAIN Dr ION!!!
