Left me with a collapsed external valve and severe cosmetic asymmetry

Not a Qualified Revision Specialist

Dr. Compton performed a revision rhinoplasty on me in June 2022. The surgery was meant to repair my ability to breathe and improve some obvious cosmetic abnormalities. Unfortunately, Dr. Compton’s surgery outcome left me with a collapsed external valve (confirmed by his colleague, who is also an ENT) and severe cosmetic asymmetry from all sides (extreme alar notching, terribly uneven nostrils, an undefined bridge with a blunt, upturned tip). Cosmetically, my nose looked absolutely nowhere near what Dr. Compton and I had discussed.

On several occasions I tried to address these issues with Dr. Compton and at every turn he downplayed or straight up dismissed my concerns. Finally, at our last in person meeting (1year post op), he left me in tears, after he gaslit me and pretended not to see the very obvious cosmetic issues shown in his own before and after pictures taken by his staff (PHOTOS ATTACHED).

By this point in the conversation, I had simply requested that he’d try two in-office minimally invasive procedures (suggested by his ENT colleague) that could not only potentially fix my breathing issue but also ever so slightly improve the extreme nostril notching/asymmetry. Dr. Compton promised he would perform these procedures in an attempt to finish the job he started and I told him that I would happily assume ALL risk in hopes that it would at the very least improve my breathing. Before officially booking the procedure his office staff reached out asking if I would have a call with Dr. Compton to go over our plans. I booked a time to talk and he was several hours late. Once we finally met, he once again confirmed that he would perform said minimally invasive in office procedures. Three days later his office sent me a terribly generic email stating that Dr. Compton no longer wanted to perform said procedures for fear of failure and referred me to his local competitor (Dr. Zuiliani). I immediately responded stating how shocked and upset I was by this decision and never heard back from anyone in his office again, including Dr. Compton himself.

6 months later and I have now just spent $25k to have another surgeon (not his local competitor) finish the job Dr. Compton refused to complete. My alar notching and asymmetry was so terrible that it required extensive grafts performed by a highly skilled revision rhinoplasty surgeon based on the west coast.

I’m writing an honest review so that anyone seeking a revision via Dr. Compton will see this and reconsider — a warning I wish I had read before choosing him as my surgeon.

Will be interested to see how quickly he or his office staff responds to this public review, considering my private email sent 6mo ago is still unanswered. I assume any response will be full of blame and excuses.

Thanks for the review. I also need revision surgery and was considering him. Only the good surgeries get posted on the doctor’s site, while the ones that don’t go well are not, which is why his Yelp profile was taken down. You can also use Reddit to post reviews, which can’t be scrubbed. It’s a shame these pathetic “doctors” can’t own up to their errors. Often, they think their skill set and knowledge are superior. It is not. I suggest a lawsuit and make sure this gets posted elsewhere. Could you please recommend the doctor that performed the correction? Thank you.

Wow! This story is so similar to mine. I had a deviated septum causing me breathing issues and I also wanted to improve my nose cosmetic wise. When I got my cast off he had told me that my nose bridge collapsed and I needed a revision. He wanted to fix it as soon as possible and only 2 MONTHS LATER he did my revision surgery. I had no idea at the time that this was a terrible idea, since I had trusted him. I felt like he had panicked and wanted to fix it right away. He took an ear graft for my second surgery. He once again took the cast off and the nose bridge collapsed again but even worse this time. I had developed a saddle nose deformity from this surgery. He definitely had no idea what he was doing and clearly didn’t give my nose enough support for the nose bridge to stay. For about a year my nose was horrific. I couldn’t breathe at all, the nostrils were uneven and it looked deformed. As a senior in high school this affected my confidence tremendously and caused me a great amount of emotional damage. He even tried to offer me discounted laser hair removal probably to try to make up for it. I declined. The irony is, he is now advertising himself as a saddle nose expert. I am in search of a doctor who will repair my nose. Will you please send me the name of yours?
