Retinol, Tretinoin, Capillaries and Rosacea: my Story

Retinol, Tretinoin, Capillaries and Rosacea: my Story

For the past few years I have been dealing with very mild rosacea that easily flares up from causes if I'm not careful. I was using OTC retinol on and off since 2017 and I believe I may have used too much as I would get irritation and redness and thought it was "normal" and "adjusting" as people would say. However I also deal with dilated capillaries that have unfortunately gotten worse with time. I always had mild but visible capillaries around both nostrils since I can remember in my early 20s, (I'm almost 32 now and a man). I've always had usually very good and clear skin with the occasional 1-2 pimple acne breakout but overall clear skin and no rosacea. In 2014 I traveled in Europe and Middle East for over a year and unfortunately didn't know about importance of sunscreen for the face and never put it on. Looking at those pictures I can see definite tanning and some rosacea flaring especially on the nose with pimples followed by a clearing up to normal levels again. However after that trip the damage could definitely have made my mild rosacea more sensitive/reactive. I started applying sunscreen almost daily in 2015 at least once a day. Most days I didn't reapply which is bad however I still did other things in combination like wear UV face masks, wide hats, scarves, balaclava in winter, sunglasses etc...

I had blue light with levulan to clear up any pre cancer spots on face.it destroyed my complexion. Made me toxic sun and flur. Light sensitivity plus Rosaeca which I never had in my life. So now I walk around with bandannas on my face and special hats. I’ve used Retin a forever. I had to go from one percent to 0.5 . Yet I know I should stop the retin a but I have no wrinkles and love the stuff. Been using for 30 years. Now I’m going to the Dermotology Dept at a teaching university. One to c if I have Rosaeca or photo toxic sensitivity. If it’s Rosaeca I’ll try the vbean laser if it’s toxic sensitivity I’m screwed for there’s nothing to be done for that.this is all because of the treatment I had. Prior to that my skin was great.wish I could sue the company. The treatment was too aggressive for my skin.
Thank you for your story Ducky1, it's always sad to hear of the negative side effects of laser. I hope you have found peace in yourself with the effects and learned to live with it. How old are you now? Which brand of Retin A have you been using for 30 years? Do you find that the Retin a makes your rosacea worse? Are you prone to dilated capillaries and facial veins like I am?
Do you have pics
I don't have pics yet but care to ask why you're asking? Do you have a similar experience?
What strength of retin a do you use?
I used .025% tretinoin.
SINCE i went on this specific B Vitamin i have not had one rosacea breakout, and mine were severe and daily.... cheap, healthy and works for most with acne too 2-4 pills a day depending on flareup or maintenance ...https://www.amazon.com/NOW-Pantothenic-Acid-500-Capsules/dp/B0013OUQEM
