Restylane for Acne Scarring

Restylane for Acne Scarring

I’ve had fraxel laser 3 times in the past in an attempt to improve my acne scarring on my cheeks and was not really satisfied with the results especially when considering the cost and pain. I decided to go to a different doctor who recommend I try a Derma filler instead. Since my acne scarring is not terribly severe he recommended I try restylane silk. I am terrified of needles and injections but I hoped this would be worth it for the self confidence boost. The doctor prescribed me an triple anesthetic to apply an hour before the procedure as well as a steroid to minimize swelling. Unfortunately I wasn’t thinking and took Excedrine to deal with a migraine I was having earlier which definitely led to my excessive scarring (see pics).

As far as the procedure goes, for someone who hates needles, the hour it took to inject each individual scar was hell. The pain was not bad, just the idea made me quesy. After about three injects I was actually feeling faint (so embarrassing) and the doctor kindly had me lay down and continued to inject while i was reclined in the seat.

Immediately following the procedure I had a crazy amount of noticeable bruises on my face and a small amount of swelling. I’ve been taking Arnica and eating many foods that are known to reduce bruising in hopes to minimize the bruising enough to cover with makeup. It is only day one after the procedure and (could be due to the minor swelling) I’ve noticed a huge improvement in the texture of my skin, regardless of scarring. There is a small amount of swelling in a few injection sites but it can be passed off as pimples if covered with makeup. I am a little scared that the bruising won’t go away but the doctor assured me that I will have nothing to worry about.

It is only Day One post procedure but I’d like to keep this post updated for anyone interested. My follow up is in two weeks and since I still have about 4/5 of a syringe of restylane left, the doctor will likely do touch ups if need be.

Will hopefully have access to my before pictures for a future post.

Feel free to leave comments of your experience, questions, etc.
