Recessed Chin - Sliding Genioplasty Experience

This was my first surgery.

Procedure done: Sliding Genioplasty,

Concerns: A receding chin. I wanted to improve my look, and fix the issue of discomfort when needing to close my mouth. Due to my recessed chin, I needed to use chin muscles to push up my lower lip, and suck in air to create a vacuum and keep my lips closed. This issue was gone immediately after surgery.

After research and multiple online consultations, I decided to go with AB Plastic surgery because of their great cost and reputation.

CONSULTATION & PRE-SURGERY

In-person consultations can be done, but i opted for the online one.

It was done through whatsapp where I needed fill out a form. They got back to me within 10 days, and then I needed to firstly share photos of my face. They recommended me genioplasty, and helped me to figure out the timeline in conjunction with my asia trip.

They were able to answer all my concerns regarding diet, post-op care, and post-op flights, and within reasonable time.

I booked the next in-person consult/surgery, which required a refundable deposit of 1,000,000 KRW. The surgery time is only jnown a day before I was able to give them a preferred time.

SURGERY DAY

After talking to reception, I was introduced to the translator assigned to me. I read some things online about translators but Their translators were nice and had perfect english. The surgeon/doctor, Jo Dong Pil, was able to speak to me in full english, but most staff didn’t speak english.

Everything went great! the only thing that at the time I felt was odd was that even before the consultation, I had to buy the medications. Which I felt shouldve been the next step after consulting, and giving the green light.

Otherwise I had to do examinations, x-rays, and a blood test, to make sure everything was okay. Afterwards I talked to the doctors which gave their inputs, and I expressed exactly what I was looking for and show them examples pictures of what I wanted, and agreed on how much to push my chin forward (it was 7mm).

Once that was done I paid the remaining amount, and I was instructed to wash up, gargle, and change into clean clothes for surgery. They explained to me post-op care and I was given a bag filled with instructions and things i needed. Such as a chin compression bandages, an ice pack specifically for chins, saline water for gargling, edible jellies to help with swelling, and more.

I got onto the surgery table and was hooked onto i believe an IV, and given anesthesia. Suddenly I woke up on a chair in the reception room, and after maybe 10-15 minutes, the anesthesia fully wore off and I was allowed to leave. Because I was alone, I was escorted by staff to my taxi bringing me to my hotel.

POST-OP

For the first two days I was really swollen. I followed all the instructions of taking meds, icing, gargling, etc. I went out everyday because it helps with the swelling to be moving. Opening my mouth and speaking was really hard, and the pain stinged, when opening but not a whole lot (probably thanks to the meds)

on the 2nd or 3rd day I went in for a follow up and got a red light treatment, to help with the swelling, which reduced it by a LOT. I was able to eat relatively normally by this point personally, though avoiding certain foods. I also didn’t need to wear the compression bandage anymore on my chin.

I came back a week later for check up and more red light therapy.

I was starting to see the results albeit with swelling, but at this point I felt unsure whether I loved the change or not, and felt regretting my decision, which as stated in the papers that it’s normal for patients to feel regret within the first few weeks, so all i could do was wait.

on the 13th day I did the same and I was able to remove my stitches. I did it one day earlier than normal because i was leaving korea, but before they removed it they checked to make sure it was healed enough. i saw the doctor and We discussed the changes and how my chin issues are now gone.

minor swelling but Loving the results so far, its natural looking like i wanted, as friends or family have commented. definitely recommend. Everything went very smoothly. and the staff were very nice.
