How it works
- Our highly-trained Review Moderation team evaluates all reviews before they're published to ensure they're written by people like you and not a member of a doctor's office.
- This multi-step process takes up to 24 hours from review submission to publication.
- Doctors can't pay to have reviews removed or hidden.
- Reviews are only removed at the reviewer's request or if they violate our Terms of Service.

*Hi! Please see my Restylane review after reading this for info on comparing the two fillers for the eye area, one year after this treatment. *
I initially went to Dr. Pyle at Davis and Pyle in Raleigh about a year ago (Nov 2014) and received Belotero in my tear troughs. Their practice was one of very few in the area that mentioned this specific treatment on their website, and it is a tricky one so I wanted to be sure I went to a pro. This was my first ever time getting any facial treatments other than microdermabrasion once in college, so I was very nervous.
I have always had huge eye ridges in my face and often looked tired, getting comments about how I looked like I needed more rest (thanks peanut gallery!). This dramatically affected my self esteem in a positive way. The whole thing took less than 45 minutes, and most of that was talking about the procedure.
Dr. Pyle used a cannula which is a flexible needle that can move around through one injection site to varous areas and reduces bruising. Be wary of practitioners who do not use these in the eye area, from what I can tell it makes a huge difference. After injecting the filler, he used a q-tip to even out the filler and spread it around under the skin.
Some things to note:
-You are going to hear the product going in to your skin sometimes, which is weird! It sounds like little crackles, but that is normal.
-Eat a big breakfast! I overdid the coffee I think, and when we started, I immediately began to feel incredibly nauseous, and almost passed out! I have no problems with needles, but had a very quick and unpleasant physiological response which apparently happens sometimes especially with the eye area. Dr. Pyle and his assistant were very nice and gave me a coke and let me recover before continuing. I continued to feel nauseous and light headed, but we managed to finish.
-Bring something to squeeze! It is an uncomfortable feeling, and definitely not pain free, although i cannot stress enough that it is totally bearable, especially considering the pay off.
-If you don't like needles or are super nervous, start off with some botox or something not right up on your eyes. My current filler extraordinaire Lisa (from the same office, please check my other reviews) says that this is one of the treatments she prefers to do on someone who has had fillers before. But I felt fine other than the whole almost passing out thing, haha :)
Ok, so results: 80% better than my baseline. I was so so happy, I had no idea two weeks prior to this treatment that I could so drastically refresh my looks (thank NPR for informing me this was a thing!). My swelling went down almost 100% within a week (it just looks like you are a little puffy and slept in), and no one noticed a thing.
My husband said he could definitely tell the difference, and while he had been skeptical beforehand, agreed that I looked more rested and youthful.
The results gradually fade over time, and in September 2015 I started to think about going back to redo this and some Botox (separate review soon). I would say the Belotero was about 60/70% gone by this time. I still looked way way better than before so I don't really know how to quantify this.
I do want to mention that the Belotero was not 100% smooth, and in one spot under one eye I felt that there was a slight...I don't know how to describe it, but kind of an uneveness. It was the kind of thing only I could notice, and only in certain lights, and still way way better than the giant face creases I had before. Because my face was also very asymmetrical, there was still a little asymmetry in my eye area, but this was definitely reduced (if one side seems worse to you than the other, mention this to your provider as they can add more to one side than the other).
Also, Dr. Pyle now recommends seeing his dedicated nurse injectors for fillers etc, as he concentrates mostly on surgery, which I highly recommend- see someone who does facial injections all day!
So, all in all, very worth it. Great value, lasted as long as advertised, quick procedure, minimal downtime. And awesome staff. :)

Provider Review
Dr. Pyle was very relaxed, informative, and honest. His assistants and staff were all very friendly and helpful. My appointment was on time, and not at all rushed. He now recommends seeing his dedicated 'nurse injectors' (cool title!) for fillers, as he concentrates mostly on surgeries, which I can recommend highly. (See Lisa!)
