Breast asymmetry as a teenager led me to have a...

Breast asymmetry as a teenager led me to have a silicone implant in the left breast at 17yrs. Unfortunately I experienced an abscess and consequently had to have the implant removed. This left considerable scarring on the underside of this breast, which totally distorted the natural shape of the breast and despite numerous following implants, never improved. I must also say at this stage, that I never felt my breasts were anywhere close to looking natural and I always felt 'abnormal', which bothered me tremendously, feeling embarrassed to be seen unclothed, even with my husband.
Having reached 60 years, my breasts were becoming increasingly uncomfortable, painful and a concern. The breast consultant in Eastbourne, Mr Ash Subramanian, felt, because of my numerous operations on my breasts, that a referral to a plastic surgeon was the best course of action and I saw Marc Pacifico on the NHS at The Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead. I had the silicone removed with no problems and subsequently saw Marc at Purity Bridge to further discuss my options. Marc Pacifico has the rare quality of being warm and approachable whilst being perfectly professional. He explained all my options very clearly, with the pros and cons of each and together we agreed on a best course of action. I had already decided that at my age I really didn't want to risk the need for any future operations as I aged further and that a unilateral breast reduction to even the breasts was my preferred choice and Marc agreed. He also explained that repairing the bad scar tissue would require extensive surgery, skin grafting and with no guarantees that I would achieve my desired outcome.
Having had Marc perform my initial operation, I had built a good rapport, trust and respect and consequently had no hesitation in continuing my care with him.
This is something I should have done 30-40 years ago but without exception, no one counselled me with this option at any of the occasions of my previous consultations. Marc reduced my right breast to give a shape close to my left breast, at least from the top, and he reduced the areola which was much larger than the left. He visited me immediately post op and again in the clinic 3 months later. I was always assured that I could see him at any time should I experience any problems.
I am now one year post op and couldn't be happier. The scar tissue on my left breast is beginning to fill out and for the first time in my life I can wear clothes without a bra should I choose. More importantly, I no longer feel ashamed of my body. Marc not only repaired my breasts, he restored my self confidence and quality of life, and for this I cannot thank him enough.
