Ptosis surgery with Dr. Nerad

My doctor was Jeffery Nerad at Cincinnati Eye Institute in Ohio. He is very skilled, but not the best communicator. He would off handedly recommend things and then change his mind. This stressed me out so much, but he had so many credentials and recommendations that I stuck with him. Well I’m grateful for his skill and my end result. If you’re in the Midwest and want a skilled surgeon for ptosis he comes highly recommended. Just ask him to slow down and explain everything, repeat things back to him to be sure you’re on the same page. I chose this doctor too because my mild case of ptosis ran the risk of over correction and I was hoping he had the experience to avoid that complication.

I developed ptosis around 18 years ago from contacts or an eye infection and it progressively became more noticeable as I aged. I’m really glad I went through with the surgery. I have no memory of the actual procedure and felt no pain. The swelling after was unpleasant but got better over a couple of weeks. I had more swelling than most, and ended up being prescribed prednisone which helped. I wish I had gotten the surgery done sooner. I didn’t understand that I was raising my eyebrow unconsciously to lift the droopy lid. It took me a while to understand why my eyes and eyebrows looked uneven.

Internal approach, tightening of levator muscle. Picture order from top to bottom: pre-op, day of surgery, 7 days post op with swelling, 5 weeks later with lash extensions. Hope this helps someone! Happy to answer questions!

Also, CEI (Cincinnati Eye Institute) gives out general aftercare instructions. Be sure to follow what Dr Nerad recommendations (his aftercare packet), not CEIs.
