Placement of stitches
I hope this photo answers questions regarding the incision sites and placement of stitches.

It does answer many questions! I have lines above my upper lip and beneath my lower (much finer lines beneath the lower lip). Does this protocol excise some of the skin beneath the lip?
Also, my hairstylist lost her eyebrows and had an amazing job of permanent makeup for new ones done. I actually had to feel them to know they weren't real. I am thinking that an excellent permanent makeup artist could make any lower lip scar disappear altogether - if dermatologic microneedling doesn't do it completely.
It's hard to even tell that you have any scars! Are you happy with the one beneath your nose?
Thanks so much for posting!
This procedure will remove skin both below your nose and below your bottom lip. Dr. Pontell removed ~30% of the skin blow my nose for the top lip. He also removed a good portion of skin from just below my lower lip so that would likely remove the lines you mention. My scars are very minimal and they don’t bother me at all. I have a tiny bit of bumpiness along my lower lip line but was told that regular massaging will minimize any bumpiness. I have no bumpiness under my nose. Hope this helps!
Thank you so much for sharing that
Could you tell me how bad your swelling got? How long before you felt you could go out in public?
Thank you for posting that, I was curious if the cut was along the whole lip or just halfway under. It looks like it has healed up very good, you cant even see it anymore!
Looks great. Can you post a photo of your lips in a few months? I want to see how your lower lip scar is healing. I went to Dr Pontell for Ultherapy. I should let him give me a nose job but I and afraid of that procedure.
I certainly will. It has been 3.5 months and the scars are nearly invisible.

Pontell: The Perfect Lip Lift
I began noticing the sad shape of my top lip for quite some time. My dislike eventually grew into disdain and I knew I had to do something. I didn’t like the idea of an implant because they appeared too unnatural. In 2015, I had a PS do a fat transfer to my lips. I was promised beautiful, natural lips. The outcome: absolutely nothing! My body reabsorbed all the fat that was transferred into my lips. Huge waste! As luck would have it, I found Dr. Pontell in late 2017. He took the time to give me a very thorough evaluation before the procedure. He sat down with me and explained what I can expect and that we should do both top and bottom lip for best results. The procedure was done in office...about 2 hours total. My healing time was just over a week and the stitches came out. I couldn’t be happier with the results! Dr. Pontell is clearly an expert in facial aesthetics and he schedules regular follow ups until you are fully healed. He doesn’t have an ego and he doesn’t need one....his work speaks for itself! Pout Perfection!

Beautiful results, you must be thrilled!!
thank you...I’m beyond thrilled! I only wish I did it sooner!
I meet with him in 3 weeks. Thanks
good luck...he is great! I’m sure you will love your results.
Beautiful , your faec looks so mcuh younger now! I feel you with the fat transfer, huge waste of money! had it done ages ago,and just as you ,I was promised nice results,I dont even think it lasted 2 months lol! By the way, what did the doctor did to your bottom lips? was it the VY procedure?
thank you! it’s amazing what a difference a fuller set of lips can make! and it’s too bad we both paid good money for a procedure that did nothing. my fat transfer lasted only as long as the swelling! total letdown. Dr. Pontell did the VY procedure where he removed skin both below my nose and below my lower lip. good luck!
A vy procedure is done from inside the mouth and leaves no visible scars. I think what he did is simply called vermillion advancement.
He did not take any skin from inside my mouth so that is correct. This was the vermillion advancement, not vy.
Oh,I see, can you tell me how was it done? do you have stiches under your bottom lip? can you see them if so?
Dr Pontell cut skin just below my nose to shorten the length of my upper lip. He did the same to my lower lip, cutting skin so that the lower lip would be fuller. I had stitches in both areas where he cut and removed skin. The stitches were removed over the course of two visits. All stitches were removed after 10 days. The stitches were very visible until they were removed.
I would be concerned that the lower lip, especially along the scar line would look unnatural or odd, reticular early close up and without make up. You're happy with how it looks on the bottom lip? Does it look natural?
I meant to say "particularly close up". Also, I do think your results look beautiful in the photos.
Yeah, thats what I would be concerned about too,I wish they had another way to make the bottom lip fuller that would last .
I had that Sam question and was told that once the skin is removed it would not go back to how it was pre-surgery. So far so good!
Ironically, I think my bottom lip looks more natural without makeup. I have to do massages every day to smooth the area where I had stitches. My lips look totally natural. Very few people even notice that I had work done. I only had two people say something...both men. My girlfriends didn’t even realize I had this done until I pointed it out. I would not have posted this review if I wasn’t happy. Ask me about my recent BA and I’m not happy at all! I sincerely want others to get the sam results...I feel so much prettier and younger.
It looks really good ,from what I see in pictures! it made a nice difference in your lips, Im sure the massage on the scar would help ,and in time it only gets better! Ive seen bad scars with this procedure , so I was scared of it,but yours doesnt look like it ! I guess its like with every surgery, some get very good results and some not so much.
Hi, very nice results. I have a consult with him in a week. How long before you could go out in public? how long were you swollen? Also, for the lower lip, did he do a y/v advancement, or did he cut along your lower lip outline?
I feel something fake about this review. Be very careful in choosing this doctor ...
There’s nothing fake about this review. Dr Pontell did an amazing job and has my pictures to prove it. The same ones that you see in my review on RealSelf.
Alicia2575, I am so sorry that I wrote the first comment above. I am suspicious of reviews that have little detail and few photos. But yours is obviously genuine, now that I have read your replies. Please accept my apology.
You look fabulous! And this procedure really intrigues me. Am I correct in thinking that incisions were made and the skin was taken off from the upper and lower lip lines? Not from just below the nose? If so, it's remarkably natural looking and I don't think anyone else has reviewed one like that on this site. If this how your procedure was done, please reply so I can ask more questions. He's not too far from me and I would definitely consider seeing him. Thank you!

No worries at all! I understand your suspicion but I'd never post something that wasn't genuine. Apology accepted!
Regarding the incisions, the incision for my top lip was made just below my nose. This is where skin was removed and the stitches were put in. The incision was not made at the lip line for the top lip. I'll upload a picture of my lips when I still had the stitches in. For the lower lip, the incision was made at the lip line. He removed some skin and stitched my lower lip at the lip line.
I hope this helps....I'm more than happy to answer any other questions you may have and highly recommend Dr. Pontell.
