Four months post-op
WORTH IT$8,800
It's been a while since I posted an update! I'm currently 4 months + 1 week post-op.
I have a habit of taking pictures on Photo Booth when I'm bored and can't fall asleep and I figured I'd add some so you can see how my nose has been healing/changing over the past couple months.
I'll look through my phone and post more normal, non-photo booth pictures soon lol
I love how my nose looks and a lot of the swelling has gone down. Beyond my nose looking good, I feel like my face overall looks slimmer and my cheekbones look more prominent because of my new nose.

Amazing Rhinoplasty Experience + Results :)
I had an open rhinoplasty performed on August 9, 2018 by Dr. Undavia and it was a 100% positive experience and I would recommend him if you're in or near New Jersey and looking for a surgeon.
For as long as I can remember, I've always disliked my nose and wanted to get a nose job. I have memories of being in middle school and talking with friends about wanting to get my nose done and I'm 22 now. I started looking more seriously into rhinoplasty in September 2017 and started having consultations with surgeons then.
---PICKING A SURGEON---
I ended up meeting with about five different surgeons total between then and July 2018. Dr. Undavia was the second-to-last surgeon I met with and I felt totally comfortable with him and felt that he understood what I didn't like about my nose/what I wanted to change.
There was one other surgeon I was considering, someone who was very well-qualified and had good before/after pictures, but I just did not feel completely comfortable with him or his staff. The people I met who worked for this doctor (lady at the front desk, an assistant) came off as rude and [RS bleep] and did not make me feel welcomed there at all. Dr. Undavia's staff were very nice and didn't leave a bad impression at all.
The other doctor also kind of came off robotic(?), just not like a completely normal person... I don't know how to explain it. I just didn't feel 100% comfortable with him. Anyway, Dr. Undavia comes off as a normal person. He's very personable and easy to talk to.
I was able to schedule my surgery for a few weeks after my initial consultation.
---COST---
Cost wasn't a major factor in my decision. If I'm paying for someone to improve my face, I'm going to want to find the best person to do it and not be bargain-hunting. The total cost of my procedure was $8800. The quoted prices from other surgeons were in the $6000-$12,500 range.
---SURGERY---
I had the surgery on Thursday, August 9 at 1pm. I wasn't allowed to eat/drink anything after midnight the night before. I was really happy that he does afternoon surgeries because I'm not a morning person (at all) and would have had trouble needing to wake up at 5am the day of surgery like many people do. I arrived at the hospital at 11am. Everything went fine, the pre-op nurse was super nice and made me feel calm and kept things light.
I woke up from the anesthesia around 5pm and the rest of the day was sooooo much easier than I anticipated. I wasn't that worried beforehand, even my mom told me that morning that of surgery that I should probably be more worried about that/the recovery in general, but it wasn't bad at all. I could still taste food and breathe through my nose right after my surgery and through the rest of my recovery. I didn't feel nauseous or super tired. My face looked normal, no bruises or discoloration. A little bit of swelling.
The surgery was supposed to be around 1.5 hours but it ended up being around 3 hours and 45 minutes. The surgeon told me it was because my nose likely was broken when I was younger (probably when I got a concussion from being hit in the face with a volleyball in high school) and that the bones were not positioned the way they were supposed to be. Or something along those lines. I'm very grateful he took so much time to make sure my nose was perfect instead of rushing through it. He only does one surgery/day and clearly takes pride in doing the best job possible. Some of the surgeons I met do 3-5 surgeries a day and I'm not sure if they would have acted with the same diligence.
---WHAT WAS DONE---
Open rhinoplasty: refining bulbous tip, deprojection of nose, shaving down dorsal hump, shaving down lil bone that stuck out on bridge, lifting droopy tip. I think that's it!
He said he was also able to reduce my turbinates which is nice.
---RECOVERY---
I had very minimal bruising. The only day I had bruising were Days 2 and 3 post-op and it was just dark circles under my eyes. Other than that, my face was just a bit swollen. I did as much as I could to the healing process: took arnica pills, drank pineapple juice, used arnica gel, slept upright. The minimal bruising is also a sign of a steady hand of course
I spent most of my time inside binge-watching Netflix but I still had a good amount of energy. I even went out to eat a few times and went to the mall in the first few days after my surgery, cast on and all.
I got my cast off six days following my surgery. The only painful part of the whole experience was getting the stitches out. I wish I'd taken one of my pain pills ahead of time because it was probably the most painful thing I've experienced in my life (but still totally worth it!).
I loved the results and it's only gotten better as weeks have gone by. My friends and family all love how it looks and everyone says it looks natural and like it could've been the nose I was born with. I'm very excited to see the final result after the rest of the swelling goes down :)
---OTHER STUFF---
Dr. Undavia was very accessible, he responded to my emails quickly and answered any/all questions I had throughout the process.
Dr. Undavia's office is in a hospital right next to Princeton University which is a lovely area. I live about an hour away.
I'm currently 7.5 weeks post-op. I'll post more updates and pictures as time goes on, my nose won't be fully healed until next summer!
