I have been having problems breathing through my nose ever since it was broken during my teen years. Not only did I have trouble breathing but I also did not like the appearance of it since it showed a bump on the right side. I went to see a plastic surgeon in my 20’s and he performed surgery to correct the breathing which happened to be a deviated septum and improve the appearance as well. After the surgery he only had me come back 6 weeks later and then never rescheduled another appointment. He said my nose looked great! He was so unprofessional and my nose looked worse where it appeared “flattened” and I STILL couldn’t breathe through my nose!
I then went to another plastic surgeon in my 30’s to have the deviated septum corrected and my nose “fixed” from the previous surgeon. I still had breathing issues even though my nose did improve in appearance. Years later I broke my nose again and my breathing was worse because I had cartilage collapse inside my nose and a deviated septum again. You could even feel and see where my nose was “dented” and I still had the right side with a bump on it. I went back to the previous surgeon to have it corrected and he performed surgery. Afterwards I still had problems breathing and my nose still had the bump on the side along with the “dent” on the left side. I was just so frustrated thinking that I’ll never be happy with the appearance of my nose and just deal with the breathing issues for the rest of my life.
One day I just happened to search the internet for plastic surgeons who had high ratings and came across Dr. Dennis Hurwitz’s site. I scheduled an appointment and he was so professional and made me feel comfortable as well. He did a thorough examination of my nose which no previous surgeon has ever done! I was very impressed with his exam and then he explained everything in detail on what he could do to improve my breathing and appearance. I felt very comfortable and also gained trust with his professionalism and “attention to detail". He planned on making a spreader graft out of cartilage to improve my breathing and also use cartilage from my ears to build up my nose to improve the appearance. It’s been six months now and I have seen Dr. Hurwitz 3 times since my surgery. He also has me scheduled to come back in another 6 months to check on my progress and to make sure I’m happy with my appearance. The other plastic surgeons seemed to just want your money and then see you once for one minute saying everything looks great. Then they send you off without rescheduling another follow up to make sure you’re healing properly.
I must say I am thrilled with how well I am breathing! I don’t remember breathing like this ever! I can breathe through both nostrils and I can sleep better too without having to breathe through my mouth! He also improved the appearance of my nose I can say for the first time that I am truly happy with it! My nose is straight on both sides with no indents or bumps and looks more narrow. Overall I truly feel that Dr. Hurwitz was the only plastic surgeon that really cared about my aftercare after surgery and wanted to make sure that I was 100 percent happy with the outcome. I will definitely be seeing Dr. Hurwitz again if I ever need anything else!
