Perfect Double Eyelid Surgery Experience!
I grew up with uneven eyelids (one monolid and one small double eyelid). It was my biggest insecurity. When I began researching blepharoplasty, my priorities were 1) a natural tapered eye result and 2) eye symmetry. I had narrowed my options to several surgeons in the NYC/NJ area. Ultimately, Dr. Lao was who I felt had the best before and after results, reviews, and knowledge/demeanor. He immediately pinpointed what I needed and I could tell his philosophy was very tailored to each patient's facial features. He also has an eye for natural Asian aesthetics which was really important to me. I was also struggling between incisional and suture method and he was helpful in selecting the method that was right for my needs.
I ultimately opted for the suture method to avoid scarring. The day of the surgery went so smoothly. Prior to the surgery, we decided on the desired height of the eyelids. We adjusted the height several times. I did not feel rushed at all and he took his time making sure the lids were clearly marked. For the actual procedure, I was able to choose music to play during the procedure which definitely helped me relax. The surgery wasn’t too bad in terms of pain. You are awake the whole time. The worst part was getting local anesthesia put in my eyelids, but after that you don’t feel a thing. After the surgery, my eyelids were iced and I was out within forty minutes. My eyes were obviously very swollen but I could tell the results were already so smooth and even. The doctor called later that night just to check up. Pain-wise, recovery was not bad at all. You just have to ice your eyelids diligently for the first few days. It was slightly uncomfortable to focus your eyes so I tried to avoid looking at screens or reading. Additionally, the eyelids just felt a little sore for a few days but no pain besides that. After one week, my eyelids were de-swelled to the point that I wasn’t embarrassed to go out in public. After two weeks, they look extremely natural and beautiful, only just a smidge swollen. My eyes look so much better than before but I still look like “me”. Even my Chinese mom who is rarely impressed by anything was impressed with my results. I only wish I did this sooner.
Overall, this procedure was such a success! Choosing a surgeon was really nerve-wracking for me but I’m so glad I went with Dr. Lao. Dr. Lao and his team (Josephine, Nancy, another sweet woman on surgery day whose name I can’t remember) were amazing to work with. The price was a little higher than other surgeons but so worth it. I highly recommend to anyone for double eyelid surgery.
