I was very curious about Kybella after seeing commercials on TV and researched the pros and cons online. (RealSelf.com and the professional and patient input and experiences are most valuable!) I called two locations listed on the official Kybella website and decided to go with one who was offering $200 off of a 2 vial treatment for the month of November. Normally, it is $1200, but I paid $1000. I got 20 injections (10 injections per vial) and was told that there really is no aftercare procedure, but after reading personal accounts on RealSelf, I had already prepared myself with cold packs (from Walgreens), Arnica cream, and a chin compression strap. (I stopped taking Ibuprofen 4 days prior to the day of the treatment in hopes that it would help prevent bruising.)
I'm not very tolerant to pain or needles, so for me, this hurt and burned a lot. At one point of the injections, I asked her, "How much longer?" She said, "Just 10 more." I did end up bruising at a few of the injection spots. These were the more painful shots, so I think the needle didn't go in just right.
Swelling started immediately and on the drive back home, it was hurting pretty badly. (I should have brought a cold pack with me.) As soon as I got home, I took some Ibuprofen, put on the Arnica cream and used a cold pack. (1 cold pack for 20 minutes, every hour - I think I used 4 total.) I tried to lay down and relax. My swelling and bullfrog neck experience is very similar to others who have described it and showed in photos, including the pain and numbness under the chin. My minor bruising was easy to cover up with makeup and complete gone within 10 days or so.
I didn't take any photos because I'm not telling anyone about me getting Kybella, except for my dermatologist. I wore a high tube scarf to work the following day and no co-workers noticed a thing. I was very conscious of how I held my head and looked at them. My husband was out of town for the first two days and he did not notice a thing when he returned. I was wearing scarves and he just thought I was extra cold in the house this winter. Even with my bullfrog neck, he was clueless.
Now at 1 month after the procedure, I'm looking like I did before my Kybella. Looks like I'm back at the base line with still slight pain and numbness under my chin. I was told that it can take up to a few months to see results so I'm just going to hang in there. I will not get any more Kybella. If it works with one treatment, then that's awesome! If not, then that's $1000 I'm out of but at least I gave it a try for my minimal hereditary submental chin fat that has been bothering me for ages and my curiosity has been satisfied.
The Ibuprofen helped with the pain. Cold packs and icing helped with pain and swelling on the first day. I don't think Arnica cream works for bruising. (My dermatologist agreed about the Arnica being useless.) I didn't wear the chin strap because it was uncomfortable and made the creases on my cheeks worse (marionette lines).
Is it worth it? After a month, I can't tell yet. I am still hopeful and will watch if I get some results. I will definitely update this review later.

Hi Trina, I just went in today to ask questions about Lynella and now I'm trying to get as much information about it as I can.
I hope you see positive results and I would really like to know how you feel about it in another couple of weeks!
Good Luck,
Kathleen

It took more than 3 months for all my swelling to go down, and about 4 months before I saw improvement. My dermatologist recommended 2 treatments, 1 month apart, but considering the expense, I wanted to make sure the first provided some improvement before having a second! Still iffy on whether I'll have another one.

I didn't see much improvement until after my 3rd round of Kybella. Then, the results were not apparent until 4 months after the 3rd round. I had my 4th round 2 months ago...

I'm considering a 2nd treatment, but I want to wait until I see the before and after pics at my next derm appointment. I don't think things have changed much beyond the 4 month mark.

6 months after Kybella - back to where I started; no fat loss

I'm sorry for not updating my review with results. Basically, I have not had any results or improvement in my chin fat from the Kybella procedure. I was excited and hopeful at first, then everything was getting kind of disappointing so I didn't bother coming back to realself.com. I feel bummed out that I have returned to my normal base line before Kybella. I'm out the $1000 for the treatments and suffered through the bullfrog phase. Oh, well. I told myself that I wasn't going to go for another Kybella treatment after this - and that is where I still stand.
From my experience, I can't recommend it to anyone because it didn't work for me. Thank you for reading my review! Best wishes to you!

It seems like the most difficult thing about Kybella is the waiting game. Does your dermatologist think you'll need more than one treatment?
My dermatologist was not the one who performed the Kybella injections. I just had an appointment with her for an unrelated issue the following week so I just told her about it. "By the way, I had this thing called Kybella..." She was very interested because in her practice, she doesn't do injectables and cosmetic-type things. She was happy that I did my research before hand.
The aesthetician/nurse practitioner who did my Kybella said that I was a good candidate and that she recommended just the one-time, 2 vial treatment for me. She said that it would take time to see results.
Ah, okay - I mixed up the two medical professionals you mentioned. Hopefully, one-time gets you where you want to be!
