Day 6

Day 6 post-op of the sliding genioplasty procedure. Swelling’s gone down, but still pretty much there. Can smile, but I look pretty damn funny and my lower teeth isn’t showing. Still hate lying on my back to sleep, I will never get used to it. I still wear my jaw bra overnight, but for some reason I look more swollen in the morning when I wake up than the rest of the day. I’ve noticed bruising on my chin and down to my neck a little bit, but not too bad. Not too noticeable since I have a pretty dark complexion.
Went to visit Dr Barrera today which is another 2 1/2 hour drive to and from his office for my 1 week post op appointment. He checked the stitches and said it looked great, another week for them to completely dissolve. Dr asked me how everything was and I just said simply “I’m feeling great.” No numbness on the lips, just on the chin area, swelling is still there of course and it will be a while for it to completely go away and most importantly I think, no pain. Haven’t been taking pain meds since day 4 due to simply no pain. I also asked Dr Barrera if I could put his name in my posts and he said yes. So, for people in the South Texas area that needs a consultation about this procedure, don’t hesitate and contact him. He’s a great Dr and his team is just wonderful and very professional. I’ll see him again in 3 weeks for my 1 month post op appointment.
Best news from today is that Dr Barrera cleared me to eat regular foods! Oh my goodness, I hated my diet of just juices, smoothies, pudding, yogurt and soups. I was always so hungry and I lost around 4 pounds since surgery. Nothing too wild tho, just foods that I don’t have to chew a lot and not open my mouth too wide to eat. Just glad I can eat real food again.
That’s it for today. Might not post another update until later, because I am expecting slower changes to my swelling and face. I can’t wait.

Day 4

Forgot to write one yesterday, although not much has changed. Decreased swelling in the face which is good. Discomfort is getting better. I just wish I could eat anything though, still hungry even after soups, pudding, yogurt and smoothies.
One thing that’s kinda worrying is the uneven swelling where my right side is more swollen than the left. I really hope it’s not crooked or anything like that and that it will resolve by itself.
I still hate sleeping on my back with my head elevated. Everything feels so tight in the morning. Oh well, part of the recovery I guess. I can’t wait for this to be over with.

Day 2

Rough sleeping on your back with an extra pillow for your head to be elevated while wearing a jaw bra. Neck is hurting, back is stiff and uncomfortable as heck.
Surprisingly though, not much pain in the chin or jaw area. Of course there’s swelling, but pain was almost non-existent. Just a little bit of discomfort. I could open my mouth wide enough to brush my teeth, except I didn’t brush my bottom teeth that much scared that I would open stitches up. So, I pretty much relied on the mouthwash to keep that area clean.
Pretty much just drinking my calories now, I’mcertain I’m gonna lose weight during the first month until I can eat everything again.
I already miss working out. I know it’s only the second day, but the thought of not working out for at least a month or so is rough. I can’t wait to get back to the gym.
And I checked my face in the mirror. Swelling was pretty uneven. Looks like I’m more swollen on the right side of my face. I really hope nothing is uneven or crooked.
I know people has to be patient with the results, but of course there’s still part of me where I wanna see the results now. Oh well...
Overall, feeling good and not in pain. Just tight and numb in the chin area. I know it’ll get better. Patience is key.
