Double-jaw surgery totally worth it!

WORTH IT
Here I am 3 months post op on Christmas. I'd say at this point I'm 95% recovered, there's still sometimes a little swelling and I don't eat hard things or things that require a ton of chewing but I'm eating a lot more variety. I can open my mouth pretty wide but Dr. Jamali has given me some jaw exercises to get back to 100%. I should be getting my braces off pretty soon, maybe in a couple months. I'll update once the braces are off. In the meantime please feel free to ask me any questions or for any pre and post surgery tips, I only included a small fraction in this review. Hope this is helpful!

11 Weeks Post-Op
Skipping ahead to about 11 weeks post-op, there is still a minimal amount of swelling that you can't really see but I can feel in certain places. Everything has greatly improved and life is mostly back to normal. I've regained complete feeling everywhere except some spots on the inside of my mouth, I can open my mouth pretty wide but still not as wide as I could before, and I can chew more foods but I still choose to mostly eat softer things because it is annoying. If you have more endurance than me then at this point you could probably be eating a wider variety, but I also have really grown to love waking up with a smoothie since my time on a liquid diet taught me to get more creative with ingredients.
Also I meant to mention this before, but I found that doing yoga throughout the recovery process really helped because 1. it's low impact so when you're really bored and you just have to do something, but you still can't go for a jog or kickbox or anything like that, you can always do yoga pretty much anywhere 2. It helped me regain some energy from elevating my heart rate a little, releasing endorphins, and all the other good stuff that exercise does and 3. because you will spend a lot of time sitting or laying down not moving in the beginning and your muscles are going to get stiff and achey if you don't stretch them out. I also think it helps with inflammation by promoting good circulation. Of course please don't do any inversions or things where you could accidentally fall and hurt your face!

8 Weeks Post-Op
My 8 week mark coincided with Thanksgiving, so I thought it was a good time to give chewing another shot and I can report that I successfully ate some mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese! This may sound like a small feat but if you're reading this post-surgery then you probably understand what an exciting accomplishment that is. From this point on I tried to mix more soft foods into my diet.
