Double-jaw surgery totally worth it!

3 Months Post-Op

WORTH IT
Here I am 3 months post op on Christmas. I'd say at this point I'm 95% recovered, there's still sometimes a little swelling and I don't eat hard things or things that require a ton of chewing but I'm eating a lot more variety. I can open my mouth pretty wide but Dr. Jamali has given me some jaw exercises to get back to 100%. I should be getting my braces off pretty soon, maybe in a couple months. I'll update once the braces are off. In the meantime please feel free to ask me any questions or for any pre and post surgery tips, I only included a small fraction in this review. Hope this is helpful!

Your results are great! I have a similar look to your before photos, my question is did the surgery change your nose at all? Thanks!
Hi! It actually did change my nose a little, for the better, but it’s something I specifically discussed with my surgeon beforehand (told him about my deviated septum, asked how it would affect the shape of my nose and breathing, etc). I would say talk to your doctor about every detail you’re concerned about so they can take it into consideration when planning your surgery and give you answers, expectations, and possible options.
Thank you so much for the reply!
You look great and I like the pink hair too :)
Hello, Thanks for all the posts regarding your recovery process. Wonderful, beautiful results. Question: Are your lips now smaller than before surgery? If so, was this anticipated and are you satisfied? Thanks so much again for posting. I’ll be getting similar surgery later this year. Happy new year 2019
Aw thank you! Unfortunately this is the only part of the surgery that was a little negative for me, my lips do appear a little smaller now than before, which Dr. Jamali told me would be the case beforehand, just because of the mechanics of what had to be done. I’m still getting used to it but I figure if I really start to miss my full looking lips there are some options out there lol You should def ask your surgeon about this because everyone’s individual needs are different and therefore results are different, but your surgeon should be able to give you an idea of what the outcome will be to prepare you Good luck with everything! Feel free to reach out if you have anymore questions or need any recovery tips
I think you look beautiful in both the before and after photos. Each look is unique and different, like a work of art. I was just interested in hearing your take on this change. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I appreciate it.
You look really good! Are you experiencing any numbness/tingling in your face?

11 Weeks Post-Op

Skipping ahead to about 11 weeks post-op, there is still a minimal amount of swelling that you can't really see but I can feel in certain places. Everything has greatly improved and life is mostly back to normal. I've regained complete feeling everywhere except some spots on the inside of my mouth, I can open my mouth pretty wide but still not as wide as I could before, and I can chew more foods but I still choose to mostly eat softer things because it is annoying. If you have more endurance than me then at this point you could probably be eating a wider variety, but I also have really grown to love waking up with a smoothie since my time on a liquid diet taught me to get more creative with ingredients.
Also I meant to mention this before, but I found that doing yoga throughout the recovery process really helped because 1. it's low impact so when you're really bored and you just have to do something, but you still can't go for a jog or kickbox or anything like that, you can always do yoga pretty much anywhere 2. It helped me regain some energy from elevating my heart rate a little, releasing endorphins, and all the other good stuff that exercise does and 3. because you will spend a lot of time sitting or laying down not moving in the beginning and your muscles are going to get stiff and achey if you don't stretch them out. I also think it helps with inflammation by promoting good circulation. Of course please don't do any inversions or things where you could accidentally fall and hurt your face!

8 Weeks Post-Op

My 8 week mark coincided with Thanksgiving, so I thought it was a good time to give chewing another shot and I can report that I successfully ate some mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese! This may sound like a small feat but if you're reading this post-surgery then you probably understand what an exciting accomplishment that is. From this point on I tried to mix more soft foods into my diet.
