WORTH IT
I always was self conscious about my nose from being made fun of growing up for the size of it. While there are some things about my natural nose I liked, I definitely wanted to change some things (bridge and dorsal hump mostly.) After some online research I found Dr. Mao who had good testimonials so I figured why not give him a shot, and I was not disappointed.
I met with Dr. Mao for consultation in the fall of 2017 and basically told him I wanted a rhinoplasty but wasn't sure what to do exactly. All I knew was that I wanted the dorsal hump gone and for my nose to look natural and proportionate to the rest of my face. Dr. Mao assured me he could do this and he could keep everything looking natural. He also recommended I narrow the bridge to achieve this look. Further examination revealed I had a deviated septum that he stated could be fixed with this surgery as well.
After some time thinking about it, I decided I trusted his expertise and went for the surgery. While definitely nervous, I was excited to see my results. The first week of recovery was pretty miserable until getting the packing removed from inside of my nose and the splint removed. When I returned to Dr. Mao and had this done and saw the result of my surgery I was in shock when I saw myself. My biggest concern was the tip of my nose was pointed up but Dr. Mao assured me it would go back to normal in a few weeks to a few months (it's no longer tilted up from what I can see.) I wasn't sure if I liked the outcome because of the swelling and upwards tilt but I knew I had to give it time.
Now it's been 2 months since the surgery and the swelling is very little, if any at this point. I love the result and it is exactly what I was looking for. I even got complimented by a girl I don't know saying "your nose is perfect." (Serious confidence boost.) She had no idea of any surgery and did not know what it looked like beforehand. No one had ever complimented my nose beforehand so this was a great feeling.
I highly recommend going to Dr. Mao for any rhinoplasty needs. He's a cool laid back guy who keeps your mind at ease during the process and really seems like he takes his job and his patient's concerns seriously.
