So to recap this process, I started with a different doctor and was very unhappy. Here's the story: In January 2015, I excitedly went in for my first (and what I expected to be my only) rhinoplasty. My first look in the mirror when I had my cast removed I literally wanted to cry. My nose was HUGE, hanging down, and looked 10x worse than my god-given nose. The dr. who had performed the surgery told me to give it time and it's only swelling, it will go down. I trusted him and was diligent in my follow-ups, so we agreed the result was unsatisfactory and he performed a revision (he called a "minor touch up") a year later in Jan. 2016. Again, I barely noticed a difference and my tip was still dropping and my dorsal hump was still there...so 2nd revision was performed in July 2016. When I tell you I was back to work the next day and you literally couldn't tell anything was done, I was confused, but he said "no no you're swollen." At my 4 month follow up appointment I expressed my unhappiness and the dr told me that I was mental and must have problems at home because I wasn't happy with my nose. Needless to say, I left in tears and knew I had to find a new doctor who could take on this project that had been created. 3 surgeries later I felt like I was living a nightmare. My first consultation with Dr. Mao I felt very comfortable and felt like he understood my vision. I provided him with my post operative reports and he was able to explain to me what exactly was and wasn't done to my nose and why I wasn't getting the result I was after. He was very knowledgeable and I felt ready to commit to a 4th surgery. He was readily available the entire process, calling me the night before surgery to go over our goal. I had sent him pictures of a similar result that I had in mind and although I am only 2 months post-op and I know I still I have swelling, I was happy with the shape of my nose as soon as I left the operating room. I could see underneath all the tape and gauze that my tip was finally rotating upwards. After the surgery, he texted me throughout the week and asked me to send him pictures of my nose to make sure the color looked good. I am EXTREMELY happy with my decision to have Dr. Mao perform my revision surgery and would highly recommend him to anybody considering this and feeling very uneasy about having to go under for a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th time like me (or maybe you're lucky enough and found him the first time around)! If I could rewind time I wish I could have worked with him for my initial surgery; but I am so pleased with my entire before, during, and after process and happy that I was able to find him.
