Why I got the first procedure at 24?
I had multiple nose fractures growing up playing sports and my nose became more crooked over time. I went to a PLASTIC SURGEON who did rhinoplasty procedures to help improve my breathing and improve the symmetry of my nose. ( There is huge difference between a facial plastic surgeon and a plastic surgeon who does not specialize in just the face)
Initial Rhinoplasty: I didn't do a lot of research my first time I assumed if you're a plastic surgeon you should do an excellent job. I had my procedure in August on 2015 a week after the splint was taken off I quickly learned when I saw the results that not all surgeons are made the same. My breathing was improved which is great but aesthetically my nose looked the same except it was now wider and more noticeable.
About 5-6 months after my initial rhinoplasty procedure I started looking online at top surgeons rhinoplasty galleries all over the US. I knew this next time around I wasn't just going to jump in. (I did not want to put my health at risk by going under general anesthesia multiple times.) I did my research and made sure I chose a surgeon who had the best before and after gallery and confidence in helping my specific case. I met with 6 doctors in California, Florida, and New York City before I met with Dr. Mao. In my opinion Dr. Mao had the best before and after gallery online so going into the consult I had high hopes he could help me out.
Initial Consult with Dr. Mao: My initial consult I checked in the office and Dr. Mao came into the lobby and introduced himself and walked me to his consult room. I've personally never been to any doctors appointment where the doctor comes out after you check in. Usually a nurse take you back to a room to wait for the doctor. He examined my nose and asked what my concerns were and said he could fix them confidently no problem. The main things I took away after meeting with Dr. Mao were excellent listening skills, was not judgmental, and confident in his abilities.
Surgery: Dr. Mao did a closed approach revision rhinoplasty. After I woke up from surgery I felt pretty normal and was able to walk to the parking lot under my own power to meet a family member to drive me home
(My first rhinoplasty procedure was open approach and my nose was extremely swollen after)
Recovery: The first 5 days I had the splint on which wasn't that bad just added some light pressure on my nose. I did not need any pain medication and was able to return to normal daily activities after about 7-10 days. My nose was slightly swollen which is expected after a surgical procedure where bones were broken.
I am extremely thankful for Dr. Mao and very pleased with the results. Dr. Mao kept his word and delivered on what he said could be done. I hope this review is helpful for people thinking about getting Rhinoplasty or Revision Rhinoplasty.

Thanks for posting your review! Your nose is definitely still swollen being only 6 weeks out of surgery, but it looks good so far. Hope you keep RS updated during your recovery!
I'm so glad you were able to find Dr. Mao and get the results you desired. How has the recovery from your revision compared to your initial rhinoplasty?
