I'm nervous but excited about my upcoming surgery....

I'm nervous but excited about my upcoming surgery. No date as of yet, but I've finished all the tests and evaluations, including 6 months of physician directed weight management. Sadly I yo-yo-ed my way through that. I've given up soda, sweets, and trying to stop caffeine . I can't bring myself to tell my extended family yet.

Yay for getting all of the requirements done. Now for a date. Exciting times ahead.

I understand not telling the rest of the family. Unless you are truly prepared for some negative responses, then do not tell. I can tell you that they will not share in your excitement. I am 10+ months out and still haven't told my mom or sister and brother (or their spouses). I finally did tell one sister at about 7 or 8 months after. She was non-responsive, no criticism, no happiness. Some co-workers are still negative about it, and feel like they have a right to say whatever they feel to me. It can be hurtful, but you are doing this for a healthier you. Just keep doing what you are doing, no need to tell everyone your medical issues.

I talked to the staff at the Bariatric Center this week and they say it could take 2 to 4 weeks for final insurance authorization. They were missing a report but my doctor faxed it to them. I am trying to watch what I'm eating, and working to make sure I have all the supplements and such (recommended by my surgeon) on hand. Surgery will most likely be around the first of the year. It's scary but I'm secure with my decision and sure this is what will be best for me.

My surgery will take place in January also and am anxious to keep track of people my age (I'm 63, 240 lbs and a yo-yo dieter for about 50 years). I have not even discussed this with anyone except my husband. I am self-pay so that was a necessity. He is totally supportive and is only concerned about my health and well being (yes, I'm very lucky). I will be following you so please keep posting as I will too. Good luck in the coming months. We're in this together !!

Just yell if you want to know how easy it was for me. I had to ask if surgery was really done! Really...if you don't act sick you won't be sick you won't! LOL At least give it a try. It was my doc's advice and I took it and for me it worked...

Thank you so much for the positive words. I'm probably reading too many posts as I've noticed some having a lot of problems post-op. I know everyone is different and I don't have any pre-existing conditions like some that would make the surgery anything but successful. It's just nerve racking at times. I've gone back and forth trying to decide whether to tell anyone at all about what I plan to do. I don't want it to seem like I'm "not sure" because I am, just hate having to justify my decision to people when it's really none of their darn business.

I'm sure you'll do fine and be down to where you want to be by your birthday. Sounds like you've gotten through the first few hurdles and cleared them with no problem. Keep us posted on your journey and thanks for responding !

Thanks for the encourgement. I'd love to keep in contact with you as well. My sister wasn't very supportive so I'm not going to tell the rest of the family...at least for now.

I told my sis as soon as I got here (Atlanta) and she's thrilled for me. It wouldn't be normal for family NOT to be concerned when someone they love is having any kind of surgery, so that's ok. I'll be telling my kids soon & they are supportive but will have many questions. Just not telling anyone else YET. I just got my surgery date today...Dec. 2nd

HI msbev don't fear an tell them when you are ready. I am 63 in January 2016. I had my sleeve surgery on Oct. 8th. It will not be a month until the end of next week. I began my journey at 215 and I am now 195 with a goal of two dress sizes by Jan 11 which is my 63rd birthday! I told some folks and family and got a variety of remarks from mostly fear of surgery of any kind. My husband was the ring leader but he was the one that wrote the check. I didn't use insurance. Anyway I am so glad I made this decision. I plan on seeing 150 lbs and a size 10 which would make me very happy for the rest of my life!!! So don't be scared and you are not alone! We are everywhere with different experiences and lots of fun opinions. Just listening will help you grow. Good Luck.

Pretty sure I've met all the requirements. Now I just have to wait for the scheduler to call tomorow with my surgery date. This is really happpening. This weekend I'll go shopping for the recomended supplements.

Perfect! You are going to be amazed! You are going to lose weight! You are going to be so happy! All I can do is tell you what happened to me and my biggest advice "If you don't act sick you won't be" When you wake up from surgery put the bed up laugh and be happy...I got up about midnight the night of my surgery and walked! tell them to give you plenty of pain meds before the pain and the walking will be a breeze or it was for me. I am so happy for you. Keep me posted and you can call my office anytime. Let me know and I will send you a private number....
