I have 3 amazing children that I adore completely. I would not trade them for anything but let’s be honest, having children really takes a toll on the female body. This is part of my motivation.
However, the true motivation behind having a Mommy Makeover performed ( I had liposuction of the hips and thighs, breast augmentation/300 cc Silicone and lift, and full tummy tuck) is quite complex/there are many factors:
The women in my family are extremely obese. I have an honest fear of becoming one of them.
I struggled with Bulimia as a teenager.
I grew up with an older sister, whom I call the, “Golden Child”, she seemed to have gotten all the good genes and I got what was left over. She has always been thin and fit. I was actually asked at one point as a teenager “Your sister is so beautiful, what happened to you?” They crushed my soul. It is something I will never forget and still carries some hurt with it. The Golden Child decided to have a breast augmentation performed (Dr. Bruneteau did NOT perform her augmentation) and she tried to deny it for a very long time. Which just increased the ridicule that I received from family members. However, I always felt it was obvious that she had augmentation done because her breasts are too large for her frame (she was living in Alaska when she had the augmentation done so no one in our family had seen her for approximately 2 years and she never spoke of the surgery).
I use to run half marathons and was working toward running a full one which kept me pretty lean at the time. However, I destroyed my ankle in 2013, and 1 plate and 9 screws later, I have not been able to run as I did before. My weight began to climb higher and higher. I reached a point that I couldn’t even stand looking at myself in the mirror. I am 5’8” and when I reached 198 pounds I had enough. I didn’t even want to leave my home and my depression was at almost an all time high or peak. My husband and I talked in great detail about what would help me to feel better and overcome the depression that was consuming me all over again. The decision was to have a Mommy Makeover done.
Honestly, there are many more reasons why I chose this surgery. I can’t possibly share all of them here. For whatever reason or reasons you have to pursue this procedure own it! Don’t be ashamed of wanting to feel and look better, and it doesn’t even have to be for anyone else, but yourself.
I will choose to talk about the cons of the procedure first:
The cost of the procedure is a con. $16,000 is not the exact amount of the Mommy Makeover. I just do not have those numbers available to me at this time. However, grouping multiple procedures together and having them done all at once does help to reduce the cost. And I do think Dr. Bruneteau and his staff worked to make the procedure as affordable as possible (my insurance did not cover any part of the procedure).
The inevitable pain. This procedure will test your inner strength because it is a very traumatic procedure to have performed all at once. However, having everything done at once reduces your recovery time and again it is more cost effective.
Having to be on bed rest for the first two weeks was very difficult for me, and then being out of work for a total of 8 weeks was also very difficult. It was a very emotional process for me because I love my job as a Paramedic, however as you can imagine it is physically demanding from time to time. Your recovery time may be less depending on the procedures you have performed and the type of job that you have.
The drains that are placed. They hurt and are extremely annoying. Another test to your mental strength. They are the 2nd worst part, 2nd to the liposuction.
The pros of having this procedure:
I went into this knowing that having a Mommy makeover was not a cure all. I still have weight to lose and other fit goals in mind, but I saw this as a reset for myself. And I don’t feel like being a hermit any longer.
I am starting to feel good in my own skin again and am able to have more positive self talk when I look in the mirror now.
I am 34 years old and shopped and purchased items from Victoria’s Secret for the first time in my life. And I wore them with confidence.
Again I could go on and on about the Pros of having this procedure but I won’t. I will say that despite the pain, discomfort, and cost, I feel like I have gotten my life back. I feel as though I can walk with my head held high and carry myself with a newfound confidence.
Dr. Bruneteau performed a Rhinoplasty on me back in 2011. I absolutely love my new nose and knew that I wouldn’t want any other Doctor performing a Mommy Makeover on me, than him. He was my obvious choice in Doctors. When we were discussing the Mommy Makeover and the Breast Augmentation portion I had no idea what size to go with. How big did I want them to be? And did I want silicone or saline? Silicone implants are more limited in size than the saline implants but the silicone implants feel more natural than the saline ones.
Dr. Bruneteau was very professional during my consultation and explained the differences to me about using silicone or saline. He also gave me his professional opinion on what size implant was most appropriate for my frame. I am confident in the 300 cc Silicone implants that were placed. I feel they do suit my frame best, giving me a more natural look, rather than my “boobs” being the only thing people see or notice when they look at me. I am thankful for Dr. Bruneteau’s assessment and size selection.
Dr. Bruneteau and his staff are very professional, gentle, and kind. They have always made me feel welcomed and listen to my concerns. I love that when I go in for my follow up appointments Dr. Bruneteau comes in, does his assessment, addresses any concerns, and actually carries on a conversation. He seems to genuinely care about you as a patient and shares in the excitement, that I am confident you would have, after having this procedure done. I can’t say enough positive things about Dr. Bruneteau and his staff.
Just a few more things that I can’t put in pros or cons of this procedure but that are worth mentioning:
The liposuction to my hips and thighs was the most painful part. This procedure is one that tested my mental strength for a short time after surgery. I would recommend buying a Toilet Seat Riser if you have this procedure done. It was too painful for me to sit down on the toilet for a couple of weeks without that Toilet seat riser.
The best way for me to explain the pain I felt in my breast after the augmentation is: it felt as though my breasts were engorged. I breast fed my children, and if you did the same, you may recall the pain you felt when you became engorged because you weren't able to express enough milk. However, it was not unbearable. It was more annoying than anything.
I bought 2 wedges for my bed since we do not own a recliner. One was so that I could sleep elevated at the head, and the other went under my knees to draw them closer to my chest. This will help to reduce the stress on your abdominal incision.
The sutures used to close all the incisions are designed to dissolve on their own. However, where knots are made, your body may have a harder time dissolving them. In this case, your body will reject them/work the sutures to the surface where they will need to be trimmed. Otherwise they will impede the healing process. This has been rather annoying for myself, but at least its not a painful process.
When you are taking your pain medications don’t forget a stool softener as well.
The muscle relaxers that you are given, try not to take those right away. Your abdomen will stay numb for several weeks after surgery. However, when the feeling starts to return to that area is when you may really start to feel the muscle spasms. Again, they are not unbearable but a muscle relaxer surely does the trick.
The healing and recovery process will be different with every individual so be patient and allow yourself to progress as slowly as you need. Dr. Bruneteau and his staff will help you through all of it, and if any concern or issue comes up, Dr. Bruneteau or one of his partners will be able to address it for you in a very timely matter.
I don’t know your story but I promise you that you will have an amazing experience at Aesthetic Surgical Images, and Dr. Bruneteau will help you to achieve your goals. He does amazing work! I do not regret a single second of this journey.
And truly one last thing, You are worth it…own it girlfriend!!!!
