I had a facelift in my early 40's which was great, but now 24 years on I have been finding myself doing a double take when I look in the mirror as my sagging face doesn't feel like 'me',so reckoned it was time to think about having the procedure again.
My surgeon gave me a lot of confidence, but also made be think realistically about what can be achieved second time around, and at an older age. After careful consideration I decided to give it a go, so had my op 8th Nov.....here's how it's going...

So please you put this review up, Ilike you I had a face lift early forties 24 years ago
Now in my very late sixties with a face that is sliding downwards, I'llhave trip over it soon, I have decided to have face lift in Walnut creek USA June 2017
My problem is that perhaps my expectations are too high.
You look great, but I'm a lot saggy than you
Could you tell me what your surgeon told you not to exspect and does it make a difference because you had a lift before

My surgeon is very competent, and I felt he was giving me good advice, however he is not the surgeon who did my original lift, as he has since retired, therefore, until he actually does my surgery, my new surgeon cannot know exactly the planes the first surgeon used.

Secondly, there is the question of old scarring. The surgeon may want to revise old scars, or make new ones in a different place. For example, if your hairline was pulled back, or up, first time around that might be acceptable, however pulling it back again, maybe 2cms if there's a lot of loose skin, won't give an acceptable result.

For this reason, my surgeon said to get the most natural look we can, there will have to be a few compromises 2nd time round.

We decided the best course in my case, as I didn't want my hairline pulled back more, was to do a temporal lift to the upper face. This doesn't give quite such a dramatic result. and means the incision goes just in front of the hairline, so it will be visible and not hidden in the hairline as before. However the incision is very neat, and now it is done I am happy with this choice as I feel it will hardly show once the scar fades, and in the meanwhile I can style my hair to cover it.

Lastly, post menopause skin is thinner and less elastic than we had in our 40's, and even having had a facelift, the ageing process continues (annoyingly!!!) therefore the surgeon cannot guarantee how long the effects will last, as this varies a lot, depending on skin type, general health and lifestyle etc.

Having said all that, I hope I don't put you off. On the upside my surgeon said he was confident he could make a significant improvement for me, particularly in the jowl and chin area, and although it's only 6 days post surgery, and I don't know how things will look once the swelling goes down, so far I am pleased with the results.

I could have had my eyes done ( as I did in the first lift) The surgeon said this would make an improvement with the wrinkles round my eyes, however there is a about 10% risk of various complications with this, so I think for now I will leave my eyes alone. I feel at this stage in life a few wrinkles are ok, and I didn't want the longer recovery period, or the longer surgery time needed if I'd had my eyes done too. I didn't want to take too much time out recovering, plus I have to face family and friends and I feel my choice to just have the lift was best for me at this time.

Hope this helps. Good luck whatever you choose to do. Sue

Sounds like things are going well. What exactly are unrealistic expectations for a second lift?
November 13, 2016
Well, firstly, post menopause, the skin is thinner and there is less fat in the face, so the lift may not last as long second time round. The natural plumpness I had in my 40's isn't there now. Secondly, the surgeon who did my facelift first time round has since retired, so the second surgeon can't know what he will find, re scarring, or which plane the first surgeon used. Outcome may depend on this. Hope that helps

Yes that is interesting, so I think my expectations are going to have to be lowered.
Mind you if I end up with just the jowls gone it would be an improvement, would love to have eyes and brow done too, but have to pay thirty per cent more when I convert our New Zealand dollar.
Good luck with your journey you look fantastic, I would be happy to look like you

Well done, and to do it all twice.. Once was enough for me, you are so brave... You are going to look fab, and it will be worth the very uncomfortable few weeks xx
November 14, 2016
Thanks so much. This time wasn't as bad as the first as I had my eyes and boobs done as well that time!

In getting my first facelift in four weeks. I'm 50. How long do you think it will last?
November 14, 2016
Well, it's difficult to say as people seem to get varying results, however mine lasted a good 10/12 years, then slowly, unfortunately, things began sagging again, which is why 24 years on, I felt it was time to do it again. I think 50 is a good age to do it. Good luck. Hope you get amazing reults
November 14, 2016
I would be happy with it lasting that long. I just don't feel like my outside matches my inside at this age. I don't think you look 64. Maybe 54? Good luck to you too. Thank you for responding. Take care.
November 14, 2016
It is the jowling that bothers me the most. I don't mind a few wrinkles around the eyes either.lol
November 14, 2016
Good luck. Hope all goes well for you, and thanks for the positive comments. I will look out for your posts. Sue

Hi, not sure if you'll see this as we're now August 2017 but in case you do, can you tell me please how it's all going now? Would it be possible to see a recent picture. I'm similar age and thinking of using the same surgeon. Many thanks

Day6

Feeling LOADS better today. My pain has suddenly dropped, so didn't need painkillers today (or yesterday. Washing my hair has been a big milestone. Since the second day I have been out, walking on the beach with the dog and husband. I am driving now that my neck is less stiff. Having a couple of curious girlfriends over for lunch on Wednesday so that should be fun, I wonder what they will make of it? I get my staples out tomorrow which will be great because right now they feel very tight and uncomfortable. Took a sleeping tablet last night though, as I had hardly slept since my surgery. I never take them normally, but I was just desperate for a good nights sleep. I think maybe that's why I feel better today?
