Hey guys! I have nose surgery scheduled with Dr. G in 3 weeks. I’ve been wanting to do this for over a decade so I’m so excited! Since I’m traveling to LA for surgery I’m going to be doing this all by myself, which is fine, I’m just nervous about making sure I’m totally prepared for recovery week... so I’m really hoping to get some advice from anyone who’s already been through this:
1. What are your best recovery tips? What things are a must to have during that first week? What kinds of foods should I stock up on beforehand (I heard the cast and stuff upper lip make chewing hard??)
2. Anything you know now that you wish you knew beforehand? (Things to discuss during pre-op, general advice, etc)

Congrats! I will recommend to get some straws it makes drinking so much easier. I would say Q-tips but the doctor doesn’t recommend it. Other things that you could definitely use is a neck pillow, biotene dry mouth moisturizing spray, cough drops, gauze pads you might need more than what the doctor will provide for you, neosporin, Vaseline, ice and ice pads. I’m sure you can find more suggestions by reading the reviews they are so helpful.

This is very helpful thank you so much! I hadn’t thought of cough drops but that’s a great idea- I’ve heard some people talk about having a sore throat after (I think from the anesthesia?) so I’ll make sure to pack some with me!

Hey just had my done Wednesday and I’ll tell you what I personally had to do to feel better...
A lot of purée (applesauce, pudding, etc food) no soup I couldn’t tolerate it specially that it was salty.
A lot of ice packs for the face
Make sure you have your pain meds ready I also took Tylenol 500mg.
A lot of saline
Straw and a cup of water next to you as your lips and throat will be supper dry
A lot of pillows I slept in the couch because I could hold the side of my head with the couch.
Make sure you get bacitracin for the nose
DONT BLOW YOUR NOSE
you will be congested
Get disposal dental floss because you won’t be able to open your mouth wide.
Get a list of movies to watch and rest rest rest
I get my cast of Tuesday can’t wait my skin is super itchy.
Also the day of surgery my face was a lil swollen next day super swollen, by Friday the swelling move up to my upper face couldn’t open my eyes, by Saturday the swelling move toward the bottom of my cheeks I look it sponge bob lol and by Sunday morning today swelling has subsided a lot
Good luck and keep us posted

Hope your recovery is going well! This info is so helpful- I really appreciate you taking the time to list out all this stuff! Really helpful to know about the foods- I’ll make sure I stock up on those!
In terms of gauze for under your nose - did you get a bunch of that beforehand or did your doctor give you some to take home? I’ve seen people with that big badass thing under their nose to catch all the drippy stuff lol but I wasn’t sure where you get that.

Hey, regarding the gauze my MD gave them after surgery with take, to take home I only use it half of the next day, once bleeding stop I no longer use it.

Two weeks post-op

So I’m two weeks post-op and I’m loving my new nose! It’s still really swollen as expected but it’s already looking so cute and I love the way it fits my face. Dr. G gave me a better nose than I even expected and I know it’s jut going to keep getting smaller and more defined as the swelling goes down. I do have a little uneven swelling in the tip of my nose (right side is more swollen) so I’m hoping that just evens out over time.
As for the surgery day, Dr. G and his staff were amazing. He definitely is quick and efficient with things but so knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. His staff were so friendly and nice as well!
Recovery was a little different than I anticipated. In terms of pain, I had almost none but it’s mostly dealing with being uncomfortable. You don’t realize how much you take being able to breath out of your nose for granted lol... I also was way more swollen than I thought, so between being blocked and just feeling the intense pressure from the swelling it was so uncomfortable. I applied a cool compress every day that week and it definitely helped.
Recovery items that I really recommend:
-Neck pillow for sleeping (make sure it’s a comfortable one too! Mine was too hard and so it hurt to use after a couple days)
-Straws for drinking so you don’t bump your nose with the cup
-Mouth spray for dry mouth (really helps at night when you have to sleep with your mouth open)
-Lip balm!!! This is your best friend lol so you’re lips don’t dry up from all the mouth breathing
-Face wipes or wash cloth (since you can’t shower that week bc you can’t get your cast wet)
Other interesting things I didn’t think about beforehand:
-It took about 10 days to sort of be able to breath out of my nose again... still feel really stuffy because of the swelling and I’m sure there’s all kinds of stuff up there but I think I need to wait longer before I’m able to blow my nose again
-It also took about 10 days before I was able to smell things again
