I started losing my hair in my late 20's , at age 40 i had receded in the front but had no hair loss in the back . I tried rogaine with no results propecia worked somewhat but I had to discontinue due to some side affects . So my next option was a transplant , being a hairdresser made me more picky about how I wanted my hairline to look.
I went for a consult because of numerous commercials on tv and I'm sure you can all guess where ?? As soon as I walked in I could tell the "sales man" had his done, I call him that because he was not a dr and was hell bent on getting me to book surgery without even seeing the dr until surgery day ! He even offered a $500 discount if I booked that day!! I declined his offer and have received many better offers from them over the years but even if it was free of charge I would not have done it with them . Well 7 or 8 consults later I found Dr Meshkin and within minutes I knew I wanted him to perform surgery on me , he was honest and very informative , I was shown many before and after pics he is very passionate about what he does but does not push you to book surgery. After doing lots of research I found out you need to go to someone that only does hairtransplants and does not do one here and there, basically the staff that prepare the grafts need to know what they are doing and be well trained on doing it , practice makes perfect on that part and the more they do the better they get , if the graft is damaged it will not grow !
I arrived for surgery at 7am , Dr Meshkin again went over everything and made me feel even more confidant that I was at the right place . After agreeing to the hairline placement my scalp was cleaned and donor site shaved , I had iv sedation and quite a few shots to numb the scalp which was nowhere as bad as you would think it to be , most people sleep through the procedure but as I don't respond that great to sedation I was awake during most of it but that being said I was very relaxed and it did not seem like 7 hrs ! I felt absolutely no pain when the strip of scalp was removed I did have to have a few more shots when the grafts were placed as I could feel some pain but nothing that bad . Once finished a light dressing and beanie is placed and I was taken into another room and given something to eat and drink . So now onto recovering , pain wise it's not bad at all your scalp feels sore and very tight but not unbearable , my only worry was knowing I had a long incision on the back of my head I kept thinking it had opened up which I had not !! Sleeping is a little difficult but I found laying down with a blow up travel neck pillow relived any pressure on the back of my head . The next day you have to start washing your hair which basically is gently rinsing and pouring cleaning solution over your scalp but no massaging . I wish I had buzzed my hair before surgery which I did do after a couple of weeks , Dr Meshkin called me several times to check I was doing ok and to remind me what to expect . So after a couple of weeks most of the implanted hairs fall out I was told this will happen but not to worry as the follicle is still there and will start to grow back within a few months . Also I did get some swelling in my forehead but that only lasted a couple of days also very normal . I'm at 7 months now and can't believe how much hair has grown in and I can still see more sprouting !!! I'm beyond happy that I found such a great Dr and am so happy with the natural results, many people have commented on my hair looks good but they don't notice that I have had a transplant just something is different which I think is a good sign on the natural look of it .
