WORTH IT
I am a patient of Dr. Lambros and I he is the best plastic surgeon ever. He has given me the best results I could ever dream of! He is so professional, kind, caring, and he is a true artist and perfectionist. He is very conservative and has given me such natural results, beyond my wildest dreams! I went to 5 consultations with top plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills to remove the fat grafting, and each one did not know how to remove fat grafting telling me I will never get the results I want, and its far too risky. My 6th consult was with Dr. Lambros, and I am glad I found him after reading message boards on surgery sites. He was confident he could give me the results I was looking for. My results turned out phenomenal! He is so kind and caring, and really took the time to listen to me. He is a perfectionist, and a master at his skill. I am so thankful I found Dr. Lambros, he has been such a blessing in my life. Thank you!

I was just wondering if you had lumps and bumps which were removed as well or if your issue was just an overfill? I am considering fat grafting because I lost a significant amount of volume in my face due to IPL damage. I don't like the idea of unnatural substances in my face like fillers and implants, but the loss of volume in my face has really aged me and I want to do something about it. I am doing a lot of research before proceeding with anything as it does appear to be a very risky procedure with many potential complications. I am looking for a reputable doctor and (as a backup) looking at what can be done if the fat graft does not achieve desirable results. Any advice?

I would definitely not recommend FT. Look up celebrity 'pillow' face to see examples of how unnatural fat grafting can be and it can actually age you more and make you look very unnatural. The results are unpredictable, and most doctors have their own different techniques; some overfill the fat leaving patients looking 200 pounds with no definition in their faces, some fat does not take on one side, and stays on the other leaving the patient very unsymmetrical, and some experience lumps bumps and other irregularities. It is a permanent procedure. It is difficult to get it removed, and can never be reversed. I was lucky enough to find a doctor to remove the bad fat grafting as best he could, however it took me five years to find him. Once you do fat grafting your face will never be the same again. I would suggest trying a temporary option in a very conservative manner to see if you even like the look of the extra volume. At least those results will go away over time. Another consideration is to appreciate your beauty now, because I know I speak for myself and others that will tell you we never really appreciated our beauty until it was taken away by bad fat grafting. Everyone's results may differ, and I commend you in seeking out the pros and cons of your surgical decisions. However, due to my experience, and speaking to many others going through the same horrible results as I did with fat grafting, I would never recommend it to even my worst enemy. My procedure with Dr Lambros was the removal of the bad fatgrafting. I did not have any lumps or bumps from the initial fat grafting procedure, however, I did have one side that was much more full than the other leaving my face very unsymmetrical. After Dr lambros performed micro lipo removing some of the fat grafting, I did not have any lumps or bumps, and actually had very pleasing results. However, every single doctor besides Dr. Lambros did not know how to remove bad fat grafting, and it is very difficult to find a doctor that understands this procedure, and can actually give good results. I went to all the top Beverly hills plastic surgeons and each one turned me down saying there is nothing I can do to remove the bad fat grafting. A note the the wise: it is very easy for these doctors to inject fact into your face; but it is VERY difficult to remove the fat grafting. You will also need to wait at least a year before trying to fix it. So if you are left with an overfilled fat face, just know that you will have to walk around like that for at least a year. These are all considerations you should think about. Appreciate your beauty now, before you have lost it to fat grafting and then are praying to go back to your natural beautiful face.

Hi Ashley 2929. Did you have a lot of scar tissue from the fat grafting? I heard that if you do, that facial lipo is not a good option because it can't suck out the scar tissue and, in fact, can also cause more scar tissue. Did Dr. Lambros discuss this with you? I too have the same problem. I had it done 10 years ago. I tried a new procedure that is minimally invasive where they insert a probe under the skin and the heat is supposed to melt the fat. It's called ThermiGen RF (ThermiTight). It's been almost a month and there is no improvement. It actually seems to have puffed up the areas where the fat was injected so now you can see clearly where the fat is. So now I have to try and cover with my hair. It didn't look like that before so I don't think that ThermiTight is the answer for that. Looks like it may aggravate the injected fat if anything. Now, I'm more self conscious than ever. The fat is only in my lower cheek area. Thankfully, I didn't let the quack talk me into fat grafting my whole face. At this point I'm willing to have a small incision on my face and have this glob of fat pulled out. Better a small scar than a glob of fat that is now moving to my jowls. I would only need to do it on one side that was overfilled. Why he overfilled one side way more than the other is a mystery.

Dr Lambros gave me wonderful results, he understands how to remove bad fat grafting from many different scenarios. Each person may have had different techniques of fat grafting, different complications, and different reasons for displeasure. I wanted to simply reach out to those searching for a solution; a doctor that not only knows what he is doing, but is an artist of facial beauty, skilled, and a genius in his field. I suffered for many years searching online on forums such as these trying to find a solution to my bad fat grafting that so many doctors told me I was stuck with. I promised myself that if I ever fixed the horrible fat overfill, and received good results that I would come back on these forums and try to help others that were in similar situations as I was. This procedure is not one that most feel comfortable talking to their friends and family openly, so most search online, alone, searching for answers, and consulting with doctors who may know absolutely nothing about removing or fixing bad fat grafting.

ashley has made some very good points. The fat will remain the same in the future so you may need to resort to fillers to even out the results as your face changes around the fat. Plus, it can cause the face to sag, and even enlarge in an unpredictable way. Mine grew on the cheekbones and pulled my eyelids down. I look weird. I was 5'5 100lbs at the time of the fat grafting - very thin. This fat makes me look like German or something with squared features. I look nothing like I used to and it only seems to get worse. I have to maintain weight at a low level to look borderline acceptable. At least with fillers, you can dissolve them.

I should add: I can feel lots of gravel like lumps in my face. So yes, it can definitely cause uncomfortable lumps.

Hey Ashley, thanks for responding to me and explaining how you feel about this procedure. I understand your frustration as you and I are both victims of the cosmetic industry, even though we are sort of in opposite scenarios as to the issues we are facing. I used to have a full face before (sort of a baby face) even though I am in my late 20s. I was always told how young I look because of my full cheeks (like they weren't 'fat', but gave me that soft, feminine look). Last summer, I was talked into having an IPL treatment for some mild acne and freckles - which were very minor issues - other than that my skin was excellent. After the treatment my face was really inflamed for 2 weeks and the texture of my skin started to change drastically; worst of all the fat in my face started melting away. I couldn't really understand what was happening until I started researching online and found that a lot of other people experienced the same issues as me after having IPL. It was devastating to watch my face change so drastically over the course of just a few months. I became severely depressed as I went from having a baby face to literally (no exaggeration) looking like I am in my mid-40s. After being in this situation for approximately half a year, I felt fed up and started looking for what I can do to replace the volume in my face to make me look young again. I am uncomfortable with fillers as my skin is generally very sensitive - I often react to creams - so I was worried I'll react to the preservative in the filler. The next best option was fat. I saw some people have amazing results with it online, but then there are people like you that had such a negative experience. It's hard for me to trust anyone with my face again - I no longer believe "everything's gonna be just fine" - like I used to before, because all cosmetic procedures are a huge gamble. I am focusing on fixing the texture of my skin right now and am giving myself time to "cool off" because I don't want to make any rash decisions now that I might regret later. Anyways, I am glad you found a solution for your bad fat graft. All the best!

Thank you for the comments. You made excellent points; there are so many bad side effects or possible repercussions to fat grafting that I would not recommend it to anyone.

Hi lookingforsolutions,
Just be very careful in whatever it is you decide. I personally would not recommend fat grafting, but I understand your concerns about the loss of volume. Google celebrity pillow face to see the horrors that an overfilled fat grafted face looks like. It can actually age a face more, and make a person look very plastic and unnatural (not in a good way).
I would probably suggest not to mess with your face, but if the small chance you do decide to do something either look for non-permanent options, or be extremely extremely conservative, and make sure you are with a plastic surgeon whos work does not look done, and make sure they do not overfill.

Nor me, it's just too risky. Maybe for the body but not for the face. Temporary fillers are so much better for the face. I am still sad I didn't know there were other options out there at the time I did this.

I definitely don't think you look mid 40s. You're hard on yourself for sure. I think your plan to wait and see is right on. Rushing towards a fix (and I can attest to this) is not good when your emotions are running high. Surely you'll feel better after you improve the texture of your skin. All the best

Thank you for ur responses & thanks unoq for saying i don't look like I'm in my mid-40s, but believe me i did for a few months after the damage - i had a billion wrinkles, dead dry skin & developed jowls due to the volume loss - the pics i had on my review were taken like half a yr after the damage when things got better, the jowls went away but there is still scarring there.

No worries... I appreciate how we are attuned to things that a casual observer wouldn't necessarily pick up on. Pics don't always tell the full story. All of us who've ended up damaged are going through a tough time. It's good that you've noticed improvement at this fairly early stage though as that means there's room for further positive changes. Have you considered TCA with light therapy (non-thermal) for the texture issues and scarring? It takes commitment and repeat treatments but could help some. Fat grafting caused issues with me very much like you describe if not worse due to sagging (which is why you must be super careful with the procedure - there are pics of the texture on my review). Peels and light have helped me to manage the problem but you need repeat treatments to make a significant long-term difference.

Question regarding swelling. Would you say that you would be ready to go back to work after 10 days or would it still be noticeable that you had something done? I am definitely going to call him. I wish I had seen your post before I had the ThermiTight done. It's been 1 month and it looks like the fat was revived after 10 years. It plumped up fat instead of melting it. I feel the only thing it has accomplished is to awaken a sleeping giant. I'm laughing as I'm typing this.

Hi! I think every case probably differs in regards to swelling. I did not bruise and barely swelled and looked normal after a week, however I slept upright, iced the area, took arnica, did not chew too much, and I eat a very healthy diet with lots of fresh veggie juices and fruit smoothies to help aid in healing (and stayed far away from any salt). I also took it easy and rested and slept letting my body heal. Dr Lambros is very precise and gentle, and the procedure went seamlessly. I would def recommend consulting with him to see if he can help your case :) I think ten days would probably be plenty to return to work.

Sammi, I read that radio frequency can bring filler to the surface sometimes. Perhaps this is what it is? I'm not sure - I could be wrong. Sorry to hear that your procedure didn't have the effect you hoped for!
