Very oily skin - 54 years old - when I was younger I would wake in the morning as if I had baby oil slathered on my face, not so oily as that these days but have always had adult acne which I have controlled with the contraceptive pill. After menopause the acne started again - sore lumps under the skin so I went to dermatologist and started Retin A - anti-ageing also is a bonus - beautiful clear skin and no fine lines - people think I am 10 years younger - my skin still gets oily and my hair is able to be grown very very long - retin A causes the body to produce its own collagen - no sun though at all on face allowed

Hi do you use cream or gel? And what strength ? I am trying to stick with it but am getting spots

Retin-A only works well in gel form - I started at .25% then up to .5% and finally 0.1% and it took three months from start to finish - I had to give my face a break of 3 days and then a break of 2 days between applications. I do not put on every night and I was told never to put it on when your face is damp i.e. after coming out of the shower. My skin on my face is even toned, blemish free and looks very healthy - I would persevere as my dermatologist told me that I would get breakouts for a while before my skin cleared which was true

It comes in 0.025, 0.05 and 0.1. The 0.1 is higher than the former 2 and you def. need to work up to 0.1

The gel did make me peel the cream didn't! But I got pigmentation after using the gel dispite using a very high sun factor. I have also started to worry that it may thin my skin.

All I can say is that my skin tone is even and my dermatologist wold not prescribe a product that would thin the skin - like steroid/hydrocortisone cream cream which can only be used or short spells for that very reason

Actually the gel doesn't supply a .5% strength preparation. (Only .025% and .01%) But there is a .05% preparation used in the cream, you may have used the .1% retin a cream which is the highest concentration available?

Yes you are right - I have the cream given to be my dermatologist which is .05% and then moved on to the Retin A gel .1% . Thanks for pointing that out
